Is Wellbeing the same as being healthy?

Indic Knowledge suggests that human wellbeing is a lot more than what we would usually refer to as "being healthy"

To understand what Wellbeing is, it might be useful to explore two terms that are often used interchangeably with Wellbeing - "Healthcare" and "Wellness". In the Indic system, the ideas underlying "healthcare" and "wellness" are quite different from Wellbeing

Healthcare is a paradigm of Problem -> Intervention -> Solution. Which means that healthcare is a process of using certain specific interventions to solve an identified problem. The problem that healthcare solves is of illness or disease. So, when we have an illness, we go to a medical doctor, get an intervention (ie. "treatment" - ranging from pills to surgery and beyond) & if everything goes as expected, we are cured

Wellness, a phrase that is getting increasingly popular across the world, is also a similar paradigm of Problem -> Intervention -> Solution. However, unlike healthcare, the problem being solved is not an illness but an imbalance. Chronic inability to sleep or chronic stress are examples of such problems of imbalance that wellness tries to intervene to solve

Wellbeing is fundamentally different from both the above, in that it does not have the Problem -> Intervention -> Solution paradigm. Wellbeing does not try to solve a specific problem, either illness or imbalance. It's focus is to change the very state in which we live. Once we change the basic state in which live to a "wellbeing" state, we will find that our problems such as illnesses & imbalances drastically reduce. Much more importantly we find ourselves increasingly in a situation where life itself "becomes easy"; we find joy

A key question that arises therefore is this: what do I need to do to achieve this state of wellbeing?

Indic Knowledge has a rather simple and elegant answer to this question

The way to achieve Wellbeing is to live a life as closely aligned to our innate qualities as possible

Which means that there are three key aspects that we need to address in our journey to wellbeing

  1. Innate Qualities : Indic knowledge (across many different streams of the knowledge) suggests that each human being comes with a unique combination of innate qualities. Innate qualities are those enduring qualities that we come to the earth with and are different from the set of qualities that we acquire - and sometimes jettison - during our lives. While human qualities comprise a wide range such as Kindness, Vitality, Optimism, Physical strength, Immunity etc, not all of these are present in the same degree in every individual. Equally, some these qualities are likely to be innate while most of them are likely to have been acquired over the course of life
  2. Alignment : Being aligned means that the circumstances of our day-to-day living are fully aligned to our innate qualities. Which also means that our innate qualities get the opportunity to flourish in the way we lead our life. However, if some of the circumstances of our life do not enable our innate qualities to flourish, we find ourselves in a state of misalignment
  3. Life routines : The simplest way to address misalignments in life (where our innate qualities are at odds with the circumstances of our life) is to build a set of life routines that can compensate for such misalignments and allow for our innate qualities to fully flourish

Therefore, an effective journey of wellbeing is the incorporation of a personalised set of practices, insights, products and experiences into our life routines (daily routines, weekly routines, seasonal routines etc)

I am very Indic in my soul..when I say Indic means Indian Soul - I eat, pray, cook what a typical Indian Household would do - and that's all .. And I am always blissful for some reasons..I think that is wellbeing...
