Wellbeing or not Wellbeing
What is ‘Wellbeing’ in recruitment?
I ‘ve had the pleasure to work in recruitment for the last 22 years, crazy right? Lately I have started a new role where wellbeing and mental health seem to go hand in hand with my beliefs, also it seems to me that the subject is greatly undermined by the current trends in our industry.
I do hate to use this phrase - it shows my age; but back in the day, ‘wellbeing’ was a forbidden word.
All our problems were sorted in no time, either in a cramped interview room or down the pub. In both cases, the result was similar. You either pull up your socks and ‘man up’ or you went to another recruitment company that claims to not have any strict KPI and micromanagement style of leadership.
So, back to 2019.
Yoga, meditation, fluffy pillows, flexy time, remote working. Is this the ‘wellbeing’ we all dreamt about?
I am an okay talker and a good listener; still like to go down the pub from time to time and I am also a big believer in a positive work environment and positive attitude. We have a couple fluffy pillows, but we passed on the Yoga and the meditation bit for now.
I do often ask myself , specially on the base of the increasing mainstream calls for mental health and wellbeing awareness .
Are we a company that believes in the wellbeing of our employees? We scrapped most of the team meetings and we have invested more in the individual! Everybody is different and needs a different wellbeing plan.
We also have the flexibility for remote working and we always put family and individual needs first and more importantly, the door is always open.
What can we do to be more "2019" ?

5 年In 2019 it would be great to hear if staff really think that yoga is fluffy? There's a hell of a lot of strength and discipline used in yoga practice #justsaying

5 年Wellbeing at work means also that teammates are looking after each others, they have common goals and care about their colleagues successes. Pillows and nest swings are cool, very 2018 ;) and they help to create a good and comfy environment at workplaces, but after all, it is all about people. Good luck with building your people driven workplace.
