Well, That Was Embarrassing…
By now, we all know where the “unmute” button is on our video conferencing platform(s) even if we don’t always realize that we’re talking into the void. And we’ve learned – sometimes the hard way – that the “hide self view” option doesn’t mean that others can’t still see us. But there is always something out there in technology land waiting to trip us up.
So it was instructive, and a bit ironic, that the March 22 Sedona Canada Open Forum: “Do Canadian legal professionals have the technical competence necessary for the 21st century?” had to be terminated and rescheduled for April 19 because the registrants received at least three different start times spread over six hours.
“Human error” was to blame, of course, but a plethora of different calendar applications, some of which understand time zones and some of which don’t, didn’t help. And of course, we can all blame a jurisdiction where the hapless operator (me) is based for refusing to institute Daylight Savings Time and insisting on Mountain Standard Time year ‘round.
But we’ll try again, and you are all invited to see if we can pull it off this time. Here goes:

The Sedona Conference’s Working Group 7 (“Sedona Canada”) Education Initiative Subcommittee is holding an Open Forum for legal academia, law office management groups, legal professionals, and legal recruiters across Canada to brainstorm and develop ideas for educational programs that will address existing gaps in eDiscovery, litigation support, and legal technology knowledge and training.
