Well-being without Burning out
Burnout is the least discussed issue in organizations. Employees who have a hard time adjusting to a particular work environment which is badly impactful to their emotional and mental health, express burnout eventually.
The pandemic has made it even worse. So who is responsible to create an environment unscathed of burnout and infuse well-being? The answer is leaders and managers who hold the key to wellness.
They are immediately responsible for creating a culture that invites employees to experience respect, comfort, safety and security. A culture where we leverage work to promote better health practices.
So how does a leader and from where he should begin to create a culture of well-being before he witnesses cases of employees burning out? It's a matter of approach: gratitude vs complaining about what you can't control.
A true story which I recently explored represented a female employee having a wrecked time at her workplace.

The issue began when her manager started bashing smaller mistakes and made them look gigantic. She could not stand those daily wallops of scold and started to feel disgusted because the insult roamed around her functional department. Later on, she had a hard time facing her colleagues and wished that they expressed a non-judgmental attitude. Long story short, she resigned because she felt worthless and the impact of verbal hammering caught her emotionally devastated.
In such situations, enabling employee well-being is an emergency. Her leader should have avoided bubbling those mistakes but in certain organizations, these behaviours are part of the culture.
In a culture, we expect employees to be supportive of each other and that inspiration cultivates from leadership itself.
Thus, exercising a culture of well-being requires diversity, inclusivity and belonging (DIBs). Understanding employees and how they can be supported is paramount to their well-being and feeling of belonging.
