Welcome to yu

Welcome to yu

We are going to change the world, and I know how.

Before I share all my secrets, I want to take you back a short while.

After many months of stressful pitching to VCs, we were offered a term sheet from our lead investor! As my co-founders celebrated, I sat there quietly. It is fair to say that I was mildly terrified. It’s one thing to change the world in a beautiful, pink, PowerPoint presentation but it’s another when the VC turns around and says go and do it!

So, there I was…

I once heard the following quote (If you know who said it, let me know so that I can properly attribute it)

If you want to change the world, you need to change your country, to change your country, you need to change your city, to change your city, you need to change your community, to change your community, you need to change your family, and to change your family you need to change yourself.

All summarised beautifully by Gandhi as:

“be the change you want”

So, what is the change that we want? It may seem clichéd (but clichés are clichés for a reason) but, we want you to be the best you that you can be, while making sure to protect your loved ones.

Our startup is called yu life, and we are a totality new type of insurance company. We are reinventing the entire life insurance supply chain – from the way policies are priced all the way to how we engage with the people we look after.

Warning – this is probably the most “Actuary” thing that I have ever said, but life insurance is actually a beautiful product. It has just gone a bit wayward since the Romans introduced it 2,000 years ago.

So, all that changing that world stuff? – Simple really, if I want you to be the best you, then I need to try and make me the best me ??

Will we actually change the world? I have no idea, but even if we help a few people reach their potential – how amazing would that be! (obviously while becoming a unicorn along the way).

Over the next few months I will share with you our product updates, plans and dreams. If you want to come along for the journey tweet me @jonathanroomer – my door is always open (I have been meaning to get it fixed for a while).

It is always great to hear stories like this where a group of individuals actually have the opportunity and the drive to make something happen. I'd love to chat about how we could be a part of the story and help out along the way.
