My weekly comment:?
A few days ago, I read about the "Robot Agent", which was trained by Google to play table tennis (link ). It's still not a professional level, but it's already working very well as an amateur. BMW also announced last week that the "Figure 02" robot had successfully completed its tests in the production area (link ).?
What do these examples actually tell us??
I believe that our focus was very much on GenAI and applications such as ChatGPTs - and perhaps rightly so. At the same time, however, extremely interesting developments in the field of AI are also taking place in the physical world. Combining AI with robots may well be the next, much bigger step in the AI revolution. It can have a positive effect on the lack of skilled labour in manufacturing companies and on growth. We can make workspaces safer and offload really heavy tasks to robots.?
It's not just manufacturing companies that are a potential playground for these AI robots. If we look at the entire healthcare sector, this could be a real quantum leap. There is a huge shortage of people willing to work here, especially in the care sector. Of course, quality suffers as a result, because fewer carers have to divide their time between more and more people in need of care. But areas such as logistics, retail and municipal maintenance are other areas for the use of such technologies.?
Yes, the question naturally arises as to whether this development is jeopardising our current jobs. I wouldn't emphasise this too much, as I think this process - similar to services - will take longer.?
In the long term, we certainly can't rule out the possibility of AI robots being increasingly used in production. But we actually already have one phase of development behind us. If we look at the automotive sector, robotics is already relatively advanced there. And it has not jeopardised jobs in any way. I'm no historian, but as far as I know, no technological development has ever led to an increase in unemployment, in fact the opposite has happened.???
If we use this technology smartly, it can improve our quality of life enormously and secure fields of activity where we already know that there will always be a shortage of people willing to work.??
So use the opportunities sensibly, gradually and carefully, but dynamically!
