Hi, everyone!

I am Guo Guangchang from Fosun. I graduated from the School of Philosophy at Fudan University. Several of our entrepreneurial companions also studied at Fudan University. Therefore, we used "Fo" in the name of Fosun to express our appreciation for our alma mater.

In the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic this year, the global economy has fallen into an unpredictable recession and many students may find it challenging in hunting a job. Some students may complain about bad luck this year. In fact, each generation has its own problems to face, and each generation has different attitudes to the problems and different ways of dealing with them. However, whatever era we are in, the spirit of continuous exploration and learning always serves as the foundation for us to keep a foothold in society.

I remember that when I graduated, China was still in debate over whether market-oriented reform was socialist or capitalist. As a poor student from the countryside, I became “the pride of the whole village”, in today’s words, after getting a job offer to stay and teach in the school.

But I believe where we start in life does not determine where we end up. During my three years of teaching, I kept abreast of the great changes in our country. At the beginning of 1992, the speech delivered by Mr. Deng Xiaoping on his tour of southern China greatly touched me. Watching the changes in Pudong and Shanghai, I realized that I should no longer stay in the ivory tower as a thinker, but go out to constantly explore and courageously move forward in the tide of time. "The market is so big, and I want to explore it." So, at the end of 1992, I resolutely resigned from my school and started the entrepreneurial journey in Fosun.

In our conclusion, Fosun was also an enterprise with no technology, no funds, and no talent at its initial stage. But it didn’t occur to me that we were inferior to other powerful state-owned enterprises. What I saw was a vast market where, I firmly believed, I could carve out a career. We earned the first RMB1 million by providing market consultation services, gained the first RMB10 million by setting foot in the real estate industry, and made the first RMB100 million by researching and developing PCR diagnostics for hepatitis B. Every step of Fosun relies on our unyielding stubbornness when we were young, our “blind” faith in the future when we were young, but more on our spirit of continuous learning and exploring.

So far, Fosun has been a global enterprise with total assets of more than USD100 billion. We wish to create an innovation-driven consumer group leading the world, to enable global families to live more happily. Fosun has had industry-leading domestic and international companies in the Health, Happiness and Wealth businesses particularly, including Fosun Pharma, Yuyuan, Fosun Tourism Group, Nanjing Iron & Steel, Hainan Mining, Portugal’s Fidelidade, India’s Gland Pharma, etc. We keep strengthening our industrial barrier through “industry operations + industrial investment”. We are also driven by “both the world and China” to combine international standards and China’s speed. With our “ingenuity and innovations”, we keep investing more in the research and development for technology and innovation.

Now Fosun is fulfilling the values it determined originally, Self-improvement, Teamwork, Performance, and Contribution to Society. When the epidemic outbreak occurred in early 2020, Fosun mobilized its global resources on New Year’s Eve and its global staff made their efforts to support domestic front-line medical workers. Now we are supporting the global fight against COVID-19 as well. We have provided nucleic acid agents for more than 10 million people globally; we also keep delivering surplus protection supplies from China to countries and regions in need; we are also researching and developing COVID-19 vaccines against the clock...

We keep saying what Fosun should do is for happier families, a more prosperous China and a better world. Every Fosuner is doing the right things, the difficult things and things taking time to develop. We are honoring our promises and practicing our missions.

I believe it is worth looking forward to the development of Fosun in the future.

However, the future of Fosun requires more talents. Over the past 28 years since the founding of Fosun, I have always believed that talents are the most valuable assets of Fosun. In the battle against COVID-19, Fosun is the first to enter into a cooperation agreement with Germany-based BioNTech for the development of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. Besides, we also developed high-accuracy nucleic acid tests. All these moves rely on our talents worldwide in the healthcare industry. In the face of a crisis like COVID-19, I believe more firmly that human beings can weather this crisis only through the cultivation of talents and devoting a greater effort to technology and innovation.

Therefore, Fosun launched the “Thousand Talents Program” this year. We planned to bring on board 1 thousand outstanding fresh graduates through enterprises worldwide under Fosun, in an effort to add more vitality to the development of all our industries. Fosun welcomes outstanding undergraduates who are “brainy self-motivated, sociable, and unhypocritical” to join us. Fosun will provide a platform for you to keep learning and exploring. Meanwhile, I believe Fosun will help the youngsters of your generation to fulfill your dreams.
