Welcome to Windsor, Ontario

Welcome to Windsor, Ontario

It seems like yesterday, when my husband and I moved back to Canada. I was a returning Canadian but he immigrated from the UK. I remember the day that we went for his Citizenship Ceremony. The room was full of Men Women and children from all parts of the world. It was an amazing day that I will never forget.

Since then I have learned that Windsor has a great organization of new immigrants and refugees https://www.ncceinc.org who offer language training, youth programs and training to get jobs.

Canadian Citizenship Ceremony

This ceremony marks the culmination of a journey filled with hard work, determination, and hope. You have chosen Canada as your home—a land built on the principles of freedom, democracy, equality, and justice. Today, you become an essential part of a nation that thrives because of the unique contributions of people like you.

Canada’s strength lies in its diversity. Across this vast country, people of different backgrounds, languages, cultures, and faiths come together to build communities that are strong, inclusive, and united. As a new citizen, you bring your own rich history, traditions, and dreams, which will enhance the fabric of our city.

Becoming a Canadian citizen is more than a legal status; it is a commitment to uphold our shared values and responsibilities. It means participating in our democracy, embracing equality, and respecting the rights and freedoms of others. It means working together to create a brighter future for all who call this country home.

Canada offers you countless opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute. Whether through volunteering, joining community initiatives, or pursuing your professional dreams, the possibilities are endless. And as you make your mark in this country, know that Canada will also leave its mark on you—through its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and the enduring kindness of its people.

When you recite the oath of citizenship, you become part of a proud tradition—a tradition of resilience, hope, and a shared commitment to building a better future. You have chosen Windsor, and in doing so, you have strengthened this nation. For that, we are deeply grateful.

In closing, let me encourage you to embrace this new chapter in your life. Be curious about this country and its people, take pride in your heritage, and know that Canada is a place where your dreams can flourish.

Congratulations, once again, on this incredible achievement. We are so proud to welcome you as fellow citizens of Canada. Together, we will continue to shape a nation we are all proud to call home.

Thank you, and welcome to Windsor

I nearly forgot. The Citizenship Judge had a very important announcement at the end of the ceremony

This is what he said:

Congratulations to everyone here who are now officially Canadian citizens. You now have another very important task to complete. And that is to get your first Canadian passport.

Canadian passport new and old

Obtaining your first Canadian passport is a special milestone—a tangible symbol of your new identity and citizenship. It opens doors to travel the world and return home to Canada with pride, knowing you belong to a nation that values diversity, freedom, and opportunity. As you hold this document for the first time, it represents not only your journey to becoming a citizen but also your connection to a country that welcomes you with open arms. Your Canadian passport is more than just a travel document; it’s a reflection of the rights and privileges you now hold as part of the Canadian family.
