Tele Radio Handhelds for Lifting Applications

Tele Radio Group has reminded industry of the benefits of two handheld radio remote controls specifically for the demands of lifting and hoisting applications.

Both the T19-2 and T29-12 joined the company’s Panther line of products, which all meet Performance Level d (PLd), Category 3, equivalent to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2. This makes them suitable for use in high-risk areas such as those with moving and heavy loads.

Tele Radio, part of Sweden’s Allgon Group, offers a wide variety of handheld transmitters and larger-size waist belt transmitters for all kinds of industrial applications. However, the T19-2 and T29-12 present a variety of benefits to end users operating cranes and hoists, largely because of their conformity to relevant standards and certifications, and the fact that they are lightweight, easy to handle, and cost effective.

“Both transmitters are popular in the marketplace due to their high safety and quality at a competitive price. They are easy to setup for specific applications, and are widely used to control jib cranes, overhead cranes, loader cranes, and other overhead lifting equipment,” said KeesJan van der Elst , market manager, Tele Radio.

Electric hoist leaves large distillery in high spirits

The world’s largest producer of spirits is now benefiting from a turnkey package of three Italkrane ATEX-rated electric chain hoists supplied by Hoist & Winch.

Operational within a new extension of the Scotland-based distillery, the 2-ton swl (safe working load) hoists raise and lower sealed vessel lids and baskets containing raw materials used in the production of gin.

Among the challenges of this demanding project was a restriction in the overall height of the new building due to local planning laws. In turn, only limited headroom is available for lifting operations over the vessels. Critical for the application was the specification by HOIST AND WINCH LIMITED of Italkrane YY series electric chain hoists featuring a low-headroom design. The ATEX specification of the hoists is necessary due to the vapours and fumes produced in the manufacture of alcohol-based products.

Italkrane YY series electric chain hoists feature an Ex d electrical enclosure design to contain any explosions and stop flames, sparks and hot gases from escaping. Full anti-spark features are in place for all components subject to sliding friction, including the brass trolley wheels. Also present is a non-sparking load hook, brass anti-tip device and polycarbonate pendant control ensuring explosion protection up to Zone 1 II B T4 classification.

LGH & Rotrex expand operations opening London warehouse

The new site, which includes a large one-acre yard and workshop facilities, follows the decision to close depots in Crayford (LGH) and Rainham (Rotrex).

The benefit of the flagship Erith hub will be better and more centralised access for collections and deliveries and a broader range of LGH’s hoisting, jacking, material handling and pulling equipment available for hire that will complement Rotrex’s fleet of winch and winch ancillary equipment. Rotrex’s 360-degree service offering will also be available.?

The expanded portfolio and newly fitted-out premises will mean quicker response times and better shared knowledge so customers will be serviced more efficiently. The investment in Erith follows LGH’s agreement with Rotrex UK in 2022 to use its base in Motherwell as a distribution centre. This has acted as springboard and has helped LGH to significantly grow its presence and reach across the Central Belt of Scotland. The Erith site has 11 members of full-time staff.

This number includes the transfer of all team members from the legacy depots as well as four new recruits. The warehouse and its operations are headed up by?Paul?Skingle, an experienced service centre manager with 17 years experience in winching and lifting who recently joined the business.?He will report to?Paul?Smith, UK National Operations Manager.?

New sizes for Nord Maxxdrive XD

For different types of cranes and load ranges, Nord Drivesystems offers properly dimensioned drive solutions from a single source. For that, the company can rely on locations in more than 80 countries.

In Poland, the specialist for hoisting equipment PROTEA has been relying on drive solutions and services from Nord Drivesystems for years. For its bridge cranes?used, among other things, to transport bales of straw in biogas production, the company uses the Maxxdrive industrial gear units, which can cover torque ranges of up to 282,000 Nm.?

For the lifting gear, PROTEA uses a Maxxdrive MD?with a power of 18.5 kW. These parallel gear units build on the proven UNICASE housing principle and have been specially optimised for heavy loads.

Due to the elongated arrangement of gear stages, the housing has a large centre distance, enabling a U-shaped drive design. Especially with lifting gear drives, the cable drum and the motor can thus easily be arranged on the same side of the gear unit. The drives for cranes and trolleys also build on the Maxxdrive industrial gear units with powers of 0.55 and 11 kW.

“Our goal is to work in close coordination with our customers to find the optimum drive solution for their crane applications”, said Gernot Zarp , sales manager, Nord. “With our versatile product portfolio, we offer a wide range of drive components.”
