Growing up, I loved watching Seinfeld. It was an awesome show about absolutely nothing, yet it managed to turn our everyday situations into something both relatable and hilariously funny. A couple of months ago, Seinfeld delivered a remarkable commencement address at Duke University?where he spoke about the role of humor in life. His insights resonated deeply with me, and I believe they can add a valuable perspective to our week ahead.
Seinfeld said, "The slightly uncomfortable feeling of awkward humor is OK. It's not something you need to fix." This reminds us that feeling a bit awkward is a natural part of life and that humor can be a powerful way to navigate these moments. He went on to say, "Awkward humor is a potent way to diffuse the natural tension of awkward situations," highlighting how humor can help us manage the uncomfortable parts of life with grace and ease.
Perhaps the best reminder was, "Do not lose your sense of humor. You can have no idea at this point in your life how much you are going to need it to get through." In a world filled with challenges, humor remains an essential tool for resilience and survival.
One of Jerry’s funniest bits from his career is about how people really don’t want to be anywhere. He captures this sentiment perfectly with his plane analogy: "When you get on planes, it is all about ‘getting on the plane. Hurry, we have to get on the plane!’?
... Once you are on the plane, which is truly a remarkable feat... You have to plan a trip, pay for it, pack your bags, get to the airport, go through security, wait in the lines and board in such orderly fashion and then you make it to your seat and the first thought… When do we get off ?”?
I know I have a tendency look forward when sometimes I am often missing the value of the present moment.

This week let’s take a page from Seinfeld’s playbook...?
1) Instead of constantly thinking about the next trip, the next customer, or the next day, what if we just observed ourselves in the moment and appreciated it???
2) Humor can be our guide to finding joy in the now and making our experiences richer and more fulfilling. Let's remember to not take ourselves so seriously and infuse humor when we can, because life is too short to not laugh our way through it!
See if it makes you think a little differently about your week. Embrace humor, live in the moment, and have a fantastic week ahead!
