The First Edition of The WDSEO Club
We've had another very busy month here at WDSEO, with many new and exciting projects on the go – from brand new clients to website redesigns for some of our longstanding existing clients. Claire has settled into her new role. You can read her "Meet the Team" blog here.? Foxi has become a bit of a nosey neighbour, and we've won another award! Clutch has recognised us as a 2024 Global Award Winner for Web Design and SEO Services. To qualify for this award, you are selected based on your industry expertise, ability to deliver excellent work, and client feedback.
For our First Edition of the WDSEO Club, we'll discuss website builders' limitations and how our team of experts can create a custom website tailored to your needs. We'll also discuss the importance of SEO and how a well-designed website can help you attract more customers. Additionally, we'll cover the importance of high-quality images for your website, the benefits and drawbacks of one-page websites, and the significance of online reviews for businesses.
Website Builder vs WDSEO!
?We hate watching amazing businesses get held back by underwhelming websites, and unfortunately, this is a trap many people fall into when they start trying to boost their online presence.
When you work with us, we guarantee a visually stunning and interactive website, ongoing support, customisation, and time efficiency. Our highly skilled developers create tailored features beyond standard website builders’ limits, ensuring your website stands out from the crowd.
We collaborate closely with you to understand your brand, audience, and design preferences, guaranteeing a standout website that aligns with your goals. Our streamlined process minimises errors and ensures a speedy completion, so you can focus on what you do best… Running your business!
On the flip side, relying on website builders like Shopify can restrict your customisation options, potentially hindering your ability to align your website with your business goals. These builders often lack advanced features, which can lead to SEO and technical issues, especially as your site grows. DIY-built sites often have a distinct ‘DIY’ look, and as you’re aware, DIY rarely matches up to professional work.
That’s where we come in, offering the expertise and resources to build a website that truly represents your brand.

Winging it?
Thinking of making your own website for your business? – Best of cluck!
The easiest route is to use a website builder like Go Daddy, Shopify, or Wix, but these are inherently lacking in customisation options and advanced features, which can lead to SEO and technical issues, especially as your site grows. Not to mention, finding your way around these builders often becomes very time-consuming and the last thing you want to be doing is working ’round-the-cluck’ on your website when you have a business to run!
?At WDSEO, our expert developers will create exceptional websites tailored to your business needs. Let us build you a stunning website that attracts and retains your clients!

Google Local – Something Worth Shouting About! Google Local
What are the key factors valued by local search algorithms?
According to Google, three key things make up its local search algorithm: relevance, proximity, and prominence.
Relevance hinges on how closely connected the content on your website is to what has been searched in Google.
Proximity examines the physical distance of the business to the user’s location.
Prominence is about how well-known a business is; this includes things like your reviews and listings.
So, what’s an easy way to get started on Google Local?
Optimising for the local search algorithm can be done in various ways, and one of the crucial ones is your Google Business Profile (GBP). Make GBP a top priority for your local search optimisation strategy! The first step is to ensure that your GBP contains precise and up-to-date information, such as your business name, address, contact details, business hours, and authentic images.

Coffee Break Tips: Boost Your SEO with FAQ’s
If you have a spare minute, why not create some FAQ sections for your website or Google Business Profile? This is a great way to improve your search rankings and make things easier for visitors, particularly those using voice search (a topic I’ll explore in future posts).
To get started, spend some time thinking about the questions you get asked most frequently by customers. Write them down and create simple yet informative answers. Then, try to include some of your keywords where appropriate (but don’t shoehorn them in to the extent it sounds strange).
e.g.
Q: How often should I have a professional look at my switches and sockets?
A: An annual inspection by one of our Qualified Electricians in Plymouth will ensure everything works as it should.
By adding FAQ sections, you’ll not only save time answering questions but also improve your SEO. It’s a win-win situation that’s quick and easy to implement!

ooOooOOoo Nice New Website!
Are you looking to make a website for your new business? Want to take your trade business up a notch and boost your online presence? Or maybe your site is still stuck in the noughties and overdue an update!
At WDSEO, our team will create a stunning website tailored to your business needs. Let us help your business with a website that truly represents your brand!
Google has discontinued its Google Business Profile Website service, which means over 20 million websites created through this service will be removed. Instead, customers will be redirected to Google Maps. However, by June 10 (next month!), these websites will completely disappear, and visitors will only see a 404 ‘Page not found’ error, leaving you stranded and potential customers lost in the digital abyss.

All These Acronyms! It Must Be a Dark Art, surely!
If you’re just starting to explore the world of boosting your online presence, you might feel like you’ve opened a can of worms!
Two big ‘buzz’ words you’ll keep hearing are?SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)?and?PPC (Pay-per-Click). So! here is the WDSEO Guide on what they are…
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)?is the process of optimising your overall online presence to improve its visibility in organic (unpaid) results. This includes every avenue of your online life, whether that’s your website, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, listings, reviews, etc. The goal is to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) and attract more organic (free) traffic.
PPC (Pay-Per-Click): PPC is a form of online advertising where advertisers pay a fee each time their ad is clicked; this is often associated with platforms like Google Ads, where businesses bid for ad placement in search engine results. It’s a way to get immediate visibility and drive traffic to a website, but it involves paying for each click on the ad.
In past posts, I have compared SEO and PPC to the Tortoise and the Hare.
Whether you’re looking into taking your business to the next level and utilising the power of good web design and SEO, or you may already be using some elements of online marketing and can feel yourself getting out of your depth – We’re here to help.

Are Good Photos Really Important for My Business?
If you want to keep your customers engaged, you need to make sure that your images are personalised, authentic, and optimised. Stock photos won’t cut it anymore!
In fact, if you want to rank high on search engines like Google, bespoke and optimised imagery is a must-have. The same goes for your social media presence. Nobody likes to see dull and uninspiring images or videos – you need to post interesting and personal content to keep your followers engaged.
I know sometimes it’s easier said than done when it comes to social media because making content is hard! We are all guilty of using the odd stock picture here and there, but it should only ever be a filler and not your main subject matter.
So, make sure you pay attention to the importance of imagery when it comes to your online presence, and start creating attention-grabbing and engaging visuals that will help you build trust with your audience. The one in this post is one we have taken!

Don't Rush in And Make a Mistake!
Thinking of creating a new website? Before you rush in, let’s talk about the pros and cons of those ‘1-page’ sites. Whether you’re just starting out, need an update, or had your Google site taken down, it’s important to make an informed decision.
A one-page website may seem simple, but it could limit your online growth. Let’s look at some of the drawbacks:
On the other hand, multi-page websites offer numerous advantages:
You Cant Hide from It!
If you had a Google Business Profile Generated Site, it has now been turned off (as of March 2024), and users visiting your site will be redirected to the Google Business Profiles associated with your accounts.
But not for long!
Your customers will only be redirected to your Business Profile until June 10th, less than a month away! After that, they will get a “Page not found” error, leaving you marooned and your customers with no choice but to go elsewhere.
We don’t want this to happen to you!

Reviews!
I promise this will be the last post about reviews for a while…as long as you promise to listen.
Here’s why reviews are essential for trades or service businesses:
More Sales & New Customers?(Reviews from previous customers give people the confidence to choose your business.)
Reputation?(They make people believe you): Positive reviews boost your credibility and leave a great impression on potential customers, making it easier for them to choose you.
Customer Engagement?(Use them to chat and create a bond between you and your customers): Reviews create a platform for customers to connect with your brand and share their experiences, fostering a sense of community.
Brand Awareness & SEO?(The more they say – the more you’re seen!): Reviews enhance your online visibility and improve your search engine ranking, making it easier for new customers to find you.
Online reviews are crucial to building a strong reputation, engaging with customers, improving relationships, and boosting brand visibility, and winning new customers.
