What an eventful Q3 it has been! As summer reaches its peak, there's much to discuss. We've experienced everything from rainy days following England's loss in the Euros final to the hottest day of the year having us all fighting over the air conditioning unit, and how could we forget England's impressive tally of 65 Olympic medals has given the nation a reason to celebrate.
The world of sports is not the only thing that kept us captivated this summer; the world of politics did too. The rise of a Labour government is making waves and creating new challenges and potential opportunities. Speaking of waves, we can’t still be the only ones wishing the great weather stays. Here at ACS Staffing Solutions, we are here to help make sure you feel secure in navigating the dynamic changes imposed by a Labour government. So let us help you cool down in this political heat so that you are aware of any impacts this may have on your business.
Keeping you up to date:
It’s our priority to make sure that we make you aware of the market. While there are many available candidates for roles, there is a decline in availability from employers. The number of temporary and permanent staff has increased as a result of the drop in demand, as well as redundancies.
Here are some statistics we think you should be aware of:
- In the three months to May, there were 98,000 redundancies, compared to 90,000 in March.
- In the last three months leading up to June, there was a decrease of 30,000 vacancies.
- After a 0.4% growth in the economy in May, it did not grow in June.
- June saw a further reduction to inflation rates, marking the lowest inflation rate since May 2021.
The data above highlights the struggles that come with hiring while there is constant change in the economy and laws. The spike in redundancies reveals the competitive market candidates are in when looking for a job, and it’s our job to fill the vacancies as they come. However, the decrease in inflation will be beneficial for both the employees and the business, which should lower costs. As inflation is reduced, we may start to see consumer spending habits shift back towards luxury spending as opposed to just necessities; however, this still depends on the actions of the labour government.
