Welcome to our Inclusion Revolution

Welcome to our Inclusion Revolution

We’re all working toward so many big and complex goals these days: increasing diversity and inclusion, boosting employee engagement and retention, ensuring equity and fairness in the workplace, elevating employee performance, improving our leadership development and team building.

But if you really think about each of those goals, at the center is the beating heart of an individual with a life full of joys and concerns, friends and family, skills and experience, dreams and fears. And truths about their work and their lives. They’re either hiding those truths out of caution and fear, or sharing those truths out of trust and empowerment.

I wanted to create a biweekly newsletter to share my open and honest thoughts about the future of work and making workplaces work for everyone. Sharing the ups and downs, the good and the bad.?

I wrote Inclusion Revolution to share my truth about how hard this work is. To reckon with what’s really at stake and in the way. And to help us see that we’re not alone in seeing, feeling and getting through our fears of pain and self-preservation. It was written specifically for managers because management is what most directly impacts the experience of workers, and the people doing it have typically never been taught how to do it well, much less with an inclusive and equitable lens.?

Inclusion Revolution helps the reader examine the root causes of racial inequity across the employee life cycle (recruitment, onboarding, development, retention), and to take action to drive change within their space of influence. It follows the arc of the employee lifecycle and aims to fix one part of a broken system at a time. Rumbling with the uncomfortable, holding ourselves and others accountable, and making small tweaks over time.??

The revolution is about driving change in our workplaces, together. And that change will result in workplaces where structural inequities that limit access and opportunity are reduced, where work feels generative, effortless (despite the hard work you do), productive and joyful.

Subscribe to join me for the revolution. Here's to our Inclusion Revolution.

I just purchased the book and am going to take it with me on my canoe trip next week! I heard you on the All Hands podcast and when you told the story about the young woman who described feeling triggered when asked in a job interview how she dealt with someone difficult at work, it stopped me in my tracks. I had never thought how that question could be perceived in that way and it was a great reminder to turn a critical eye towards what many view as standard interview questions.
