Scala turns 15!

Having launched in 2009, Scala has recently turned 15 years old. It's been a nice opportunity to briefly pause and reflect on the growth of our business during that time. Scala is now a team of nine people, and we’re currently recruiting for another experienced marketer to join us. Each of us has our own strengths, and during busy periods, like this one, our combined skills and experience became essential to delivering our high-quality service.

As part of the 2024 International Women's Day celebrations, we sat down with Scala's Managing Director to interview her about that journey. You can read the article here.

Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL) Conference and Exhibition Day 2024

Scala is proud to have organised and managed this year’s Society and Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL) Conference and Exhibition Day, which took place on June 6th?at Millennium Point in Birmingham.

TV’s Dr. Xand van Tulleken was the keynote speaker at SCIL

SCIL is an organisation consisting of law firms that are dedicated to the field of clinical negligence. They have over 80 law firm members who they collaborate with to seek change and clarity on a whole breadth of issues relevant to medical negligence practitioners.

This year was their largest event to date, attended by over 170 delegates and 33 individual exhibitors. The event is free for SCIL members, ensuring that it attracts a wide range of clinical negligence solicitors from different stages of their career and making it a very inclusive event.

We were thrilled to secure this year’s keynote speaker, TV’s Dr. Xand van Tulleken, best known for CBBC’s 'Operation Ouch!' and BBC One’s 'Con or Cure'. He was joined by 11 other discussion sessions from over twenty experts. Scala’s Directors, Natalie Rodgers and Carly Cotton, hosted the last presentation, exploring how clinical negligence lawyers can harness the power of PR to help build their brand and attract new work.

COTA Case Management - Rebrand and Website Launch

Scala is delighted to have managed the rebrand and new website for the launch of COTA Case Management, formally LMC Case Management. This rebrand was done to reflect the company’s dedicated focus on providing comprehensive rehabilitation case management services, particularly for individuals affected by amputation and complex orthopaedic trauma.

STEPS Launch Latest Amputee Video

STEPS Rehabilitation and STEPS Prosthetics continue their industry-leading work with the launch of their latest video, Amputee Residential Rehabilitation. ?Following a consultation with the client, we developed the concepts for the content of the film and liaised with all those involved ahead of the various filming days. The film was shot and edited by Scala’s videographer, who has produces all of STEPS’ marketing videos.

The video features interviews with the phenomenal staff at STEPS Rehabilitation and STEPS Prosthetics, along with personal accounts from their clients, all conducted by the Scala team.

It showcases STEPS Prosthetics’ on-site workshop and specialist prosthetic manufacturing facility, along with interviews from those treating amputee clients. The stars of the video, though, are undoubtedly the incredible amputee clients who have benefited from the residential rehabilitation.

A catalyst for change?

The UK's July 4th?election will prove to have a significant impact on the industries Scala works within. Our new Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, a former barrister, is well poised to alter the legal landscape of the country. He and his party have promised ‘change’. There can be no doubt this is something they will deliver on, but time will tell how this will impact legal, healthcare, and professional services.

Voter turnout was one of the lowest on record

As for healthcare, Wes Streeting has been appointed Health Secretary, with Alan Milburn, Blair’s former Health Secretary, installed to advise him on how to negotiate the role. Certainly, organisations such as the Maternity Safety Alliance, to whom Scala provides pro-bono PR support, are hoping this could finally lead to a national public inquiry into maternity services. However, it seems that this is not what they had in mind when asked about the subject in the run-up to the vote:?

"I know there are families calling for a public inquiry on maternity, and I'm absolutely willing to sit down and talk to the families to listen to their case,” Wes Streeting told Nottinghamshire Live before the election. “If I am the next health secretary, I think the one risk factor that I will put to the families to gauge their reaction is that public inquiries take a lot of time.”

More sweeping changes within the NHS could be on the way instead, as recently suggested by Alan Milburn. Speaking at the Northumberland general election count, he said: "The starting point for health is to acknowledge how bad it is. I have been around health policy for 30 years, and it has never been as bad as it is now. The state of the system, not just hospitals, is awful. There are 7.5 million people on waiting lists, massive staff shortages—you name it.

“However, I have got no doubt that Wes (Streeting) is going to be a first-class health secretary. It will be about how we reform the system. When we made progress in the early 2000s, we had very high waiting lists, and it was the reforms that made the difference."

Scala went into more detail on the change of government and how it will impact their sector in a recent article.

The Institute of Barrister's Clerks Conference - 9th November

Scheduled to take place on 9th November, the full details of this year’s conference are yet to be confirmed, but please keep an eye on IBC’s website and social media for updates in the coming weeks and months.
