Welcome to our February Roundup

Welcome to our February Roundup

We have some very exciting news this month - Great Brummie Menu is back!

Tickets are on sale from 7pm, Friday 28 February. Last year, tickets were sold out within 48 hours – so Birmingham food lovers need to book fast to avoid disappointment.

Join us, on Tuesday 20 May, for a fantastic evening of fine dining and enjoy five-course tasting menu prepared by some of Birmingham’s finest chefs, Glynn Purnell, Luke Tipping, and Jonathan Howe, as well as Great British Menu star Liam Dillon, and Bake Off the Professionals finalist Darryl Colins. The chefs will be joined by students on the Culinary Arts Management and Professional Chef degree programmes from University College Birmingham.

Each course will be accompanied by a wine flight, generously provided by Arch 13 at Connolly’s, and the evening will include a charity auction.

Meeting some incredible fundraisers

This month, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity was delighted to spend some time with Anthony, who runs the fruit and veg stall at the QE.

Anthony is very generously donating a hamper of fresh fruit to the Young Persons Unit (YPU) every week. Anthony and his colleague Dave have run the fruit stall at the hospital for over ten years, becoming familiar faces to many of the staff and patients.

Staff members from the YPU team, Tracey and Olivia, said “On behalf of the young people and the staff we’d like to thank Anthony for his generous donation. Having fruit regularly available helps boost our patients’ moods, allows them to have a healthy snack and encourages young people to go into the social spaces on the unit. We are extremely grateful for the donations.”

Love Your Pet Day

Our Pets in Hospital volunteers, along with their human companions, delight patients, and staff alike when they come into our hospitals for a visit.

This month we have taken some time to celebrate them, on #LoveYourPetDay.

Pets in Hospitals visit patients, their families, and staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, and Solihull Hospital, helping to reduce anxiety as well as bring some joy and home comfort to those in hospital.

We are currently on the hunt for a four-legged volunteer for Good Hope Hospital, so if you would like to help bring comfort to our patients, please contact us, at [email protected] or call 0121 371 4852.

That wasn’t all for Love Your Pet Day this year as we also celebrated incredible fundraisers, Charly and Evelyn.

This February, our fundraiser Charly has walked 100 miles to raise money for Solihull Hospital Charity, accompanied the whole way by her deaf cat Evelyn.

Five years ago, Charly was diagnosed with Urticarial Vasculitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the blood vessels. She was also diagnosed more recently with the connective tissue disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Throughout this time, Charly has been treated at Solihull Hospital - and spent much of her early 20s there.

Charly wanted to do something to give back, as well as raise awareness for young people with disabilities. So, she decided to do something incredible and walk 100 miles in one month!

If you’d like to give them a hand, you can help them smash their fundraising target by clicking here: www.justgiving.com/page/evelynwonders
