Recycle IT Tackles Digital Poverty with School Laptops Giveaway

Recycle IT is excited to announce the success of our latest initiative: a school laptops giveaway! We donated 10 HP 830 G6 laptops to schools across the UK, receiving entries from over 200 schools.

“Congratulations to The Lotus Academy”!

We are thrilled to announce that The Lotus Academy in Norfolk is the winner! This specialist school, serving students with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, or ADHD, faces budget constraints that limit their access to essential technology. Sandra Govender, CEO of The Lotus Academy, expressed gratitude for the laptops, which will enhance their computing lessons and support students with unique learning needs.

Bridging the Digital Divide

This giveaway is part of Recycle IT’s National Sustainability Project, aimed at promoting education and sustainability. By providing these laptops, we’re not just donating devices but creating opportunities for students to thrive in a digital world.

Looking Ahead

We’re committed to making a lasting impact on education and the environment.

Meet the Team: Matt Bell, Technical Manager

In this edition of "Meet the Team," we caught up with Matt Bell, our Technical Manager at RECYCLE IT, to learn more about his role and what keeps him motivated.

What inspired your journey into tech, & how did you land at Recycle IT?As a kid I was forever pulling apart my toys and rebuilding them, fascinated with how electronics worked. I guess this kind of stuck with me so naturally a career doing the same kind of thing was inevitable.?

Many moons ago I was working for a leading UK PC supplier which unfortunately went bust, a week later I had an interview with Rob at RecycleIT and was hired on the spot! That was almost 19 years ago

What’s the toughest technical challenge you’ve faced, and how did you crack it??Every day brings its challenges in this role, there’s been far too many to remember any specifics. Many a time I can be scratching my head for hours trying to find a fix for a particular problem, then boom something just clicks and everything works as it should.

The problem is remembering how it was fixed in case it happens again!

What do you think makes Recycle IT’s refurbishing process stand out from the rest?Being able to do every part of the refurbishment process in-house is a massive plus, and the fact that every engineer is trained to the same high level, means we can trust that our refurbishment process is as good as it can possibly be.

How do you stay ahead of the curve with all the fast-paced tech advancements?Having an interest in all things tech has its benefits while working in this industry, also having a network of like-minded staff helps. I also receive a daily tech newsletter called TLDR which keeps me in the loop.

What’s a standout project you’ve worked on at Recycle IT that you’re most proud of?I think the work we did for the NHS during the Covid-19 lockdown stands out the most, knowing we were helping out the people who needed it the most was a good feeling. It was hard work for us all here at RecycleIT, but it was worth it.

Stay tuned for more team spotlights in our next newsletter.

RecycleIT Renews Partnership with Lowerhouse Cricket Club!!

We’re excited to announce that Recycle IT has renewed our partnership with Lowerhouse Cricket Club! We’re proud to continue supporting the club with cutting-edge technology, ensuring their fans stay connected and never miss a moment of the action.

A few years ago, we donated a laptop to help the club score games, upload results to PlayCricket, and stream matches live on YouTube. Now, we’re taking it up a notch by donating another brand-new laptop! This means Lowerhouse can keep delivering live updates and streams, especially for fans who can’t make it to the games.

At Recycle IT, we’re passionate about sustainability and the circular economy. Supporting local clubs like Lowerhouse is part of our commitment to giving back while promoting eco-friendly IT solutions.

Stay tuned to Lowerhouse Cricket Club for more updates, and check out how we’re driving sustainable tech for a better future.

Why Having a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is Essential for Our Customers

We understand that hearing the term “Data Processing Agreement” (DPA) can feel a bit overwhelming, but it’s actually one of the best ways to protect your business when we collect your old, data-bearing devices.

A DPA outlines exactly how your sensitive data is handled, ensuring we follow the strictest security and compliance standards. It’s more than just a legal document—it’s a promise that your information is safe, secure, and protected from any risks.

We know how important your data is, and having a DPA in place gives you full transparency and peace of mind throughout the entire process. While it might sound complicated, it’s simply a smart way to stay protected while letting us take care of your IT needs.

Trust us to make the process as smooth as possible, so you can focus on what matters most.
