Welcome to a new era

To the brilliant Girlboss community and beyond... 

You might have heard that something BIG happened over here at Girlboss today. For many entrepreneurs, it’s the kind of event that we all hope might come one day—and one that I’ve worked 13 years to finally pull off. Today, Girlboss joined forces with the big brains at Attention Capital to supercharge our future, together.

So what does this mean, you might ask? Well, we’ve technically been “acquired.” And that means a few things. For one, we’re bigger. We’ll have more weight to throw around, more access to capital, and the unbridled expertise of former FOX, Snap, Palantir, VICE, and TIME executives who have built and scaled world-class brands. Attention Capital is a place where I can hang my beret knowing that Team Girlboss and I will get to do great work alongside incredible operators and strategists.

Day-to-day, not much changes. I’m still the Chief Executive Officer, the team grows, and we keep doing what we’ve been excelling at: building a global online and offline community of ambitious women with the goal of connecting, collaborating and advancing together. We’ll continue to create 360-degree value with brands to produce bonkers-good, well, everything. More events, more Girlboss Rallies, more podcasts. More tech. More Girlboss. 

What drew me to Attention Capital in the first place? A few things, actually—but first and foremost, it’s the fact that its founders are entrepreneurs. Joe Marchese has built and sold multiple businesses; most recently selling True(x) to Fox. Ashlyn Gentry has a god-damned Ph.D. (meanwhile, I had to Google which letters of Ph.D. to capitalize), and she’s spent the past four years building Palantir, which has something to do with data, and when I search it, the headlines include the word “Pentagon,” so I’m pretty sure it’s a big deal. Nick Bell built Snap alongside founder Evan Spiegel, reporting directly to him as the head of content, and IPOing that beast for a fortune. 

Attention’s thesis is clear: Build brands and technology that capture and measure attention in ways that actually count. When you listen to a podcast or attend an event, it’s the only thing you’re doing. When we connect with our community, it’s the only thing that we—and you—are doing at that moment. In a world of clickbait whack-a-mole and dopamine hell, Attention Capital and Girlboss are building what will be for your minds what Whole Foods was to our bodies. We’re the healthier option, but you just don’t know you need us yet.

I would be lying if I said this wasn’t terrifying. It’s beyond exhilarating, but still terrifying. I try to remind myself that change is meant to be terrifying and that if I weren’t uncomfortable, I wouldn’t be evolving. And that ethos is at the core of all that we do at Girlboss and exemplified by the exciting opportunity ahead for us to evolve with Attention Capital. 

Which takes me to my last point. When we evolve together, we move faster. We learn faster. We recover faster. Which is what I’ve had and will continue to have the privilege to do alongside Team Girlboss and the investors who have supported us since day one – particularly our lead investors, Nicole Quinn at Lightspeed and Jennifer Wolf at Initialized. Thank you to all the humans who have and will continue to join me on this wild, exhausting, exhilarating adventure that is entrepreneurship.
