We've been spending so much time at home over the last nine months, and we aren’t out of the woods yet. But if there’s anything we’ve gained these past few months, it’s the time we’ve had to look around us purposefully and find ways to make our homes cosier and more comfortable.
One way to achieve this is by utilising paint colours.
If you’re looking to enhance the look of your home – whether to sell it or simply make it homier – there are a lot more interesting options than sticking with an all-white kitchen, for example. To get your creative juices flowing, here are some indoor décor colours for 2021 that are worth considering.
Décor colour trends 2021
The year 2021 is all about bringing warmth and balance into the home. So let’s go over the décor colour trends from across the globe this year.
White
White is a perennial favourite, especially if you’re selling your home.
We all know how a lovely white kitchen looks fab in photos (and always appeals to buyers). However, all-white kitchens can also be boring. One way to use white that will please buyers and warm up your kitchen style is by painting top or bottom cupboards a different colour.
If you’re wedded to white, you might still want to warm up a cold white with a warmer tone. Paint colour trends this year include white with warmer undertones, such as the Dulux Whisper White or Vintage Linen, which has a warm grey undertone. These variations of white can all be paired easily with stronger or contrasting colours, or other neutral hues.
Warm, neutral palettes
The Dulux tag line for its 2021 palette is: Nourish, Reset and Retreat
Their palette forecast includes warmer colours like Warm Neutral, Olive Blend and Tuft. Other interesting colour combinations typically involve the use of a neutral, earthy or cooler hue combined with a more striking, warmer colour.
To create a cosier feel that's more nurturing, you might choose from warmer tones, greens and mustardy colours. If you’re a big fan of the neutral palette, you can enliven it with a nod to the seventies colours, with warm hues such as oranges and reds. Or you can add a dose of freshness with pastels of the eighties but used in playful, unexpected ways. Freshen up a grey sofa with some bright accents. Throw in graphic-printed cushions in yellow, lime green, blue, pink or other delightful pastel shades like sage green.
Colour pops
You can combine the warmer colours of wood with the uplifting freshness of bluish greens, energetic reds and yellows. The key here is to combine cool and warm colours to balance the feel of every room.
And for sheer class and style, navy blue and white exude a sophisticated vibe that’s fresh, and symbolic of our harbour-encircled peninsula. If you want to inject some colour into your navy-and white-themed living area, you could try adding some bright yellow accents that are guaranteed to pop.
For smaller rooms, you might use neutral colours with touches of bright hues for added interest. But don’t shy from incorporating deeper tones that will add depth, drama and style. You can also go for pure white, with splashes of colour from various accents, and use light-coloured rugs.
Cheers to an empowered home!
Design trends in all aspects of modern living are a reflection of where we are as human beings. Our shared experiences unite us. But, at the same time, they force us to express our individuality.
So, this year, don’t be afraid to be who you are and embrace the authentic you.
Be minimalist or maximalist. Upsize or downsize. Build walls or keep your spaces at home open.
Choose your colours – the ones that inspire you each morning so you look forward to a brand-new day.
