Welcome to "Lessons from my Students," a new weekly series starting next week!

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to guide many postgraduate students through their dissertation journeys. One of the most valuable insights I’ve gained is that real examples often offer the best lessons. In this series, I’ll share practical guidance based on anonymised scenarios from students’ work, highlighting effective practices and common areas for improvement.

Each week, we’ll explore topics like writing a compelling introduction, maintaining consistency and alignment throughout the dissertation, using tables and graphics effectively, and understanding sample sizes. I aim to highlight a problem based on a contextualised, anonymised example and to provide clear, actionable advice to help students and supervisors identify potential issues early and build stronger dissertations.

Whether you're just beginning or well into your qualitative or quantitative dissertation, this series is designed to support you. Each post will be concise and focused on practical steps you can apply.
