Welcome to the January 2023 Newsletter from enVerid Systems
Happy 2023
In this issue, we're looking back at 2022: an eventful year for our industry and for enVerid. We are full steam ahead in 2023 with AHR Expo coming up. But first, a look back:
In 2022,?ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022?was released, incorporating consequential changes to the Indoor Air Quality Procedure that makes it easier for engineers to apply. And with the release of?Addendum n?to the newly updated standard, technology testing requirements are now crystal clear (ASHRAE's 145.2 test methodology, which is what we've been using all along) that makes it easy to determine which technologies are in compliance with the standard and which are not. We're pleased to share that our Sorbent Ventilation Technology??passes with flying colors.
Along with 6 other organizations, we released? How to Achieve Sustainable Indoor Air Quality: A Roadmap to Simultaneously Meet Indoor Air Quality, Building Decarbonization, and Resiliency Goals, which we also made into a?free online course?for ASHRAE, USGBC, PIE, WELL, and AIA credit (among others). This paper lays out a methodology that is?more robust than the traditional "the solution to pollution is dilution" approach, which is highly energy-intensive and can provide poor indoor air quality when outside air is polluted. With the "Clean First" methodology, instead of bringing in large amounts of outside air, we set IAQ goals, clean the air of particles, pathogens and gases, ventilate only as needed to balance pressure and achieve IAQ goals, and monitor IAQ to ensure goals are always?achieved as efficiently as possible. This approach makes use of the ASHRAE Standard 62.1 IAQ Procedure to achieve the same or better IAQ far more energy efficiently than the traditional approach.
We also expanded our partnership with Daikin,?rolling out?our Sorbent Ventilation Technology in their Vision and Skyline products in December in addition to the already-launched Rebel Applied unit with SVT, which was just named number 5 in?Retrofit Magazine's?list of the top 25 products of 2022.
In addition, we expanded our partnership with SCG in Southeast Asia and inked new alliances with?Kirloskar Chillers?in India and with?cove.tool. We were named to the?Majid Al Futtaim Launchpad Accelerator?program and our technology was validated by the?U.S. Department of Energy's High-Impact Technology Catalyst?program. Next month, we're looking forward to seeing you at?AHR Expo, where we'll be in?booth BC1603.?We anticipate accelerated growth in 2023 and look forward to keeping you posted on more exciting developments.
Thanks for your interest in enVerid. We hope to see you soon in a commercial building near you!

Ask the Experts: DLR Group’s Nathan Kegel, High Performance Design Leader
In this installment of enVerid’s Ask the Experts blog series enVerid CEO Christian Weeks catches up with Nathan Kegel, High Performance Design Leader at DLR Group. Nathan and his team of “Zero Heroes” won the “Lowdown Showdown” design challenge at ASHRAE’s Building Performance Analysis Conference and Simbuild in September for their design for a new K-5 school in Albuquerque, NM. Nathan says:
"What we found is that by introducing sorbent filtration with the IAQP, we could reduce OA by 46%, which resulted in an additional 23% energy savings and a 50% reduction in peak heating and cooling loads while delivering the same or better IAQ than if we had used the Ventilation Rate Procedure."?

RMI and UndauntedK12 Report: HVAC Choices for Student Health and Learning
Recently,?a new report?was released in a partnership between RMI (formerly Rocky Mountain Institute), an independent nonprofit focused on transforming global energy systems through market-driven solutions, and UndauntedK12, a national nonprofit focused on supporting the equitable transition to zero carbon emissions in America’s schools. The report lays out a compelling argument for the urgent need to upgrade school HVAC systems with an eye to the 20-30+ year lifecycle of these assets.

Podcasts
The Smart Buildings Insider Podcast recently featured enVerid CEO Christian Weeks, saying:
"As a serial climate tech entrepreneur and healthy sustainable building expert, Christian shares insight into the invaluable need for sustainable indoor air quality in the wake of the pandemic, illustrated using the four key steps outlined in his?latest whitepaper.
If you’re interested in delving into the mind of a technology innovator, or want to learn more about IAQ in real estate – then be sure to have a listen.”
On the Road
Recently members of the enVerid team attended the Breakthrough Energy Summit in Seattle. Here's some of what Christian Weeks had to say about the experience (which included chatting with Bill Gates, as you can see in the image above):
"It was a privilege to attend?the Breakthrough Energy Summit these past two days to take stock of progress made in climate tech over the past five years and what needs to be done over the next 5-10 years. It was encouraging to reflect on how far we have come (Breakthrough Energy?has invested >$1b in >100 amazing companies including?enVerid Systems, Inc.?that each have the potential to mitigate 0.5 gigaton of carbon a year). The event was also a call to action for the significant work still to be done."
Christian Weeks spoke on the "Winning in 2023: Key Trends and Opportunities in Building Product Manufacturing" panel this month at cove.tool's revgen.tool launch party in Atlanta. Moderated by cove.tool CEO Sandeep Ahuja, the panel also included Ryan Burrell of?Mitsubishi Electric - Trane US.?Attendees included leaders in the AEC industry.
enVerid Gives Back
This winter the enVerid team volunteered for Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston, hanging drywall and getting our hands dirty at two homes in progress. We finished our projects with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for our own housing and for our teammates.
New PDH Course
How to Achieve Sustainable Indoor Air Quality
Our newest free online PDH course is available on demand,?How to Achieve Sustainable Indoor Air Quality: A Roadmap to Simultaneously Meet Indoor Air Quality, Building Decarbonization, and Resiliency Goals. Based?on our recent white paper?of the same name, the course offers 1.75 hours of PDH credits from organizations including ASHRAE, BOMI, ICC, RCEP, USGBC, and more, qualifying for HSW credits, as well.
