Dear readers,
European lawmakers are preparing to question the Commissioners-designate in the much-anticipated confirmation hearings. These hearings will help show how the new Commissioners will approach to key technology policy issues.
We are particularly focused on how new Commissioners plan to improve Europe’s competitiveness in technology, drive forward digitalization and meet the EU’s digital targets.??
It is time for a different approach in EU tech policy, aimed at attracting investment and removing obstacles holding back digitalization. A simple and clear legislative framework is the first step to achieving that.
In line with the principles of our?Vision 2030 ?policy guide for the next EU mandate, ITI published several recommendations for policies that support Europe’s digitalization goals ahead of the hearings.

ITI Spotlight:?How Tech Can Advance the EU’s Sustainable Development
ITI released?Vision 2030: EU Sustainability Policy , outlining the tech sector’s vision to contributing to the EU’s sustainability strategy. Specifically, ITI’s document describes the game-changing potential of new digital technologies to deliver the green targets that the EU is seeking without compromising the region’s competitiveness, and sets forward three policy recommendations:
Why it matters:?Europe at a crossroads. The advent of advanced technological capabilities, and of AI in particular, is driving fundamental changes in the way that key European sectors like agriculture, health and manufacturing operate and deliver the goods and services that consumers require. Although the innovative benefits that AI brings are already prevalent, the growing importance of these technological advancements in our everyday lives coincides with a proportional increase in the need for more dependable and sustainable energy sources.
What’s next:?The global tech sector can lead the way in developing new solutions that allow the EU to make its sustainability ambitions viable and competitive.?That is why ITI released its?Sustainable Technology Policy Guide: Understanding AI’s Role in the Energy Transition . This comprehensive report is the first one to draw global policymakers’ attention to the significance of emerging technologies and AI, and how they should be leveraged to build a reliable, resilient, and modern energy infrastructure that supports sustainable innovation and ensures sufficient energy access for everyone. As Europe turns the page in the upcoming mandate and reflects on its own competitiveness and security, striking the balance between innovation and sustainable resource management will be paramount.
