Aimee Dobson recently joined us as a full desk member at Innovation Connect after taking part in the Enterprise Programme at the University and winning the ‘Fastest Growth Enterprise Idea’.?

Aimee is the founding member and Education, Research and Communications Lead of Brand Conscience, which exists to enable brands, retailers and consumers to make more sustainable and ethical decisions when they purchase products.

By introducing a new labelling system called ‘sus’d’, Brand Conscience aim to help simplify these decisions by breaking down the most vital issues into five key areas:

• Production Processes
• Longevity
• Recyclability
• Manufacturing Miles
• Company Kindness

These areas are scored using simple ‘traffic-light’ colours which allow customers to make informed decisions at the point of purchase resulting in improvement in supply chains as more sustainable products are sought not only at high end but on the high street. Sus’d scores can be displayed on packaging, labels and ecommerce websites to communicate directly to customers much like the food nutrition labels seen in Europe.

Aimee is also a member of staff at the University of Portsmouth , working for the past five years as a Psychology Technician, working closely with students and academics on research projects for final year dissertations and grant backed research. This follows an 18 year career in the health and fitness industry, which includes 10 years as part of the University of Portsmouth Sport & Recreation Department at the University. She has worked closely with the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences with joint research ventures and delivering short courses for the students to obtain further industry recognised qualifications alongside their degree.

Aimee also enjoys spending time with her two very active children who have both inherited her and her husband’s competitive streaks and have a love for sport! Aimee met her husband many years ago playing the sport of Tchoukball (a mixed-gender, non contact sport taking inspiration from handball and volleyball) when they both represented Great Britain.?

Aimee said “I love living near the sea, spending time camping with my family and friends and cosy movie evenings.

“I recently took part in the Enterprise Programme and thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially found the guest speakers sharing their experiences of business fascinating. I’m a prolific note taker and I had multiple pages of notes especially from Becky Lodge BA (Hons) FRSA , Graeme Quar and Heather Barrie ’s talks. I also really enjoyed meeting the other members of the cohort and sharing our own experiences of start up life.I was thrilled to be announced as the programme’s winner for ‘Fastest Growth Enterprise Idea’. This support means so much to us at Brand Conscience and we have lots of exciting opportunities coming up.

“I have now taken the next step on my learning journey by joining the Help to Grow Management Scheme also run at the University of Portsmouth by the Faculty of Business and Law.”

Brand Conscience was also recently nominated in the The News, Portsmouth Innovation Awards for the ‘Environmental Innovation of the Year’ category and finished runners up at the Awards event held at the Centre for Creative and Immersive Extended Reality at the University of Portsmouth.
