Welcome Home: From Ukraine to a New Beginning in the U.S.

This is a story of resilience and hope that has deeply touched the hearts of Giving Children Hope (GCH). In the face of adversity, a Ukrainian family found their lives upheaved by the invasion in Marispol, Ukraine.

As they navigated through the chaos and destruction, this family, unbeknownst to them, became the focus of Trinity Church OC and Home for Refugees USA . Their journey, marked by courage and determination, unfolded as they sought safety and a new beginning in the United States.

A Community Coming Together

Referred to us by Trinity Church OC and Home For Refugees. Both organizations painted a compelling picture of resilience, endurance, and the pursuit of a better life. Recognizing their need, GCH swiftly identified them as ideal candidates for the Welcome Home Program.

On August 28th, in collaboration with Home For Refugees, GCH was able to provide the family with a fully furnished apartment, equipped with essentials that had a retail value of around $10,000 through GCH's redistribution program in partnership with companies like Costco, Amazon, Target, and more. The furnished apartment included a sofa, queen, and twin beds with mattresses and bedding, a TV stand, a recliner, kitchen appliances such as an air fryer and pressure cooker, a dining table and chairs, and various housing essentials.

A New Chapter Unfolds

While it can never replace what was lost, it serves as a crucial foundation for their fresh start. With just one suitcase each, this family arrived on U.S. soil and wasted no time in building their new life. Despite facing challenges, the father found employment, and their son is now enrolled in school.

Home For Refugees expressed, "The help that Giving Children Hope gave the family was so essential in their start to rebuilding their lives here in the U.S. By furnishing their new apartment, GCH provided a sense of home and security the family desperately needed to get a fresh start."
