Welcome to Hell
Michelle Young
Consumer Housing Advocate/Industry Advisor ?? "Get's it". Done. Consumer advocacy for sustainable, national housing policy reform.
Welcome to the Ville.? Originally named Elleardsville. Now known as just and only “The Ville”? A reputation like this supersedes itself and requires no introductions.? So, I’ll skip any preamble and get right to it.? You’re an atheist you say?? Cool.? We don’t discriminate.? Although, we may respond with a knowing look and something you might mistake as humor as we simply reply:? “OK.? Come to St. Louis.? We’ll drop you in the middle of the Ville and see if that doesn’t make a believer out of you.” This.? As we pass you in a westbound lane on any highway leading away from the Ville - and you. Peace be with you.?
This place is no joke.? There is a reason that the Feds had this place - St. Louis - solidly as the most dangerous City in the US.? The data and this chart is from 2014…..? Recently STL dropped in rank as Murder Inc. to #2 behind New Orleans.? Assuming this is true.? Perhaps it is only because the Ville became LESS “HELLISH”.?
Ass-ume away. Everyone here is from the Show Me State.? So, IF the Ville became less HELLISH it is ONLY BECAUSE there are fewer houses in which to hide in Hell and fewer Hellions as a result. The City’s landscape is dotted with “dollhouses”.? The city’s hallmark,? red brick homes with the backs - long ago stripped away in collapse - enabling one to stare into them. Eerily, like a dollhouse.? Do not be fooled.? This is not home.? It is not a house.? It is a pile of bricks waiting to be collected and sold.? All of the copper and fixtures having been stripped out long ago and sold for drugs. Along with the guys and dolls that used to occupy the houses. It is the cycle of misery in the Ville.?
Less houses in Hell. ? ? Less hellions in Hell. ? ? Less hiding in Hell.? ? ? Less hell to hide in - in Hell.? ? ? Losing. Losing. More Losing. Always with the Losing.??
“Between the 2000 and 2010 censuses, the population dropped 26 percent in the Ville.? So did the nation’s housing stock to a lesser percentage. The US currently has a shortage of 7 million houses.? Homelessness is at an all-time high in 2023. ? Meanwhile, back in 2014, the Ville boasted:(-) 1,242 vacant buildings.??(-) 5 Empty Schools.?(-) 1,700 vacant lots. ‘I’ve torn down over 600 buildings’, Moore said. ‘I can’t tear down all of them.’ Some entire blocks are just overgrown grass.”?
Now do you see?

Often the #TURTH is unimaginable, but this is NOT about imagination! Although many will read about the harsh reality Michelle Young, few will take it ON, and even fewer still know how to take it on.
