Welcome GE Interns

This week I had the honor to welcome GE’s summer intern class of 2020 to the team. Internships are vitally important. It’s a chance to gain important experience and to fall-in-love...or out-of-love with a potential profession. Either one is okay as it’s part of the learning journey.  In my history working at GE, I can’t recall a summer season without welcoming our local interns in person & working alongside them in our New York offices.

This year is a lesson in adaptability and focus to set sharper, more strategic priorities. We are embracing the reality of a largely virtual summer, and we’ll all learn as we go. And I can’t think of a more important effort than seeding the future of our company with this group to ensure success & innovation in the Aviation, Energy & Healthcare industries, and in disciples including digital technology, engineering finance & quality.

Borrowing a page from our CEO Larry Culp, this summer is a chance for our interns to learn, to question, and to help them on their path to a successful career. We are honored to have approximately 1,000 interns join us this summer across the US & ensure they are able to get the real (and I mean real!) education of what it takes to build a world that works at GE. Many are getting their first exposure to Lean processes, design thinking, product insights and working virtually with a team.
