Welcome to erthos? Impact

Our monthly newsletter at the intersection of sustainable materials & AI.

Welcome to our very first LinkedIn newsletter! Allow us to reintroduce ourselves. We're erthos?, a climate technology company dedicated to a material-conscious future to mitigate plastic pollution.

Despite significant advances in developing sustainable materials as alternatives to conventional plastics, they still represent less than 1% of the more than 400 million tons of plastic produced annually.

At erthos?, our mission is to drastically increase the scale and adoption of these emerging materials. We harness the power of AI, science, and engineering to make significant strides in material science. This allows us to accelerate the discovery of new materials and ensure they can effectively enter the market with unprecedented speed.

At our core, we are scientists, environmentalists, and engineers who believe in better materials for a better planet. In 2018, Nuha Siddiqui and Kritika Tyagi, Co-Founders, started erthos??with the sole purpose of mitigating plastic pollution from our oceans and landfills.

After raising over $11.2 Million and making waves across the industry as Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees and Governor General’s Innovation Award recipients, both Nuha and Kritika are poised to disrupt the way sustainable materials and products are developed at the enterprise level.

Since our inception, erthos? has been tirelessly validating the powerful role sustainable materials can play in addressing the plastic crisis. Through partnerships with some of the world's largest brands and manufacturers, we have uncovered persistent barriers to adopting plastic alternatives—often over-engineered and inaccessible. These insights have ignited a renewed sense of urgency and commitment to our mission with even better solutions.

While sustainable materials are at the forefront of innovation, their adoption lags considerably behind. This is mainly due to the industry's nascent nature compared to established traditional plastics. Similar to the evolution of solar energy, sustainable materials require substantial investments, collaborative efforts, and groundbreaking changes to compete at scale with traditional plastics.

As we move into 2025, we will focus on dissecting and optimizing the supply chain to establish a framework where sustainable materials become the standard. Our goal is to significantly shorten their time to market, tackling the climate and plastic pollution crises with the urgency it demands.

Sustainable Materials are At Risk - Here’s Why it Matters: When we talk about sustainable materials, most think of the end product: bioplastic bottles, compostable bags, or biodegradable cutlery. What’s often overlooked is the journey these materials take to reach the hands of consumers, from the sourcing of raw materials to commercialization.
