Welcome to 'The DEX Files'
Here in The DEX Files, we will delve deep into the world of Digital Employee Experience (DEX).
They say that you never realize the value of something until it’s gone. I was at a family funeral just a few days ago, so perhaps that’s making me feel more introspective than usual!
Thankfully what I am thinking of right now is nothing so serious. For over a year, starting in August 2020, and running until the end of December 2021 where the final “episode” was a quite cool, and often remarked on technology/cooking crossover I ran a blog/vlog series called “Tachyon Tuesday”.
Since 2022 we don’t use the T word in 1E anymore – what was Tachyon is now the “1E Platform” and has continued growing from strength to strength with ever more interesting use cases being implemented by customers and partners alike.
Tachyon Tuesday never came back in 2022 because internally we were planning for the re-brand, which happened later that year. I honestly had no appreciation of the impact or reach of series until it stopped.
People started emailing in and contacting to ask where it was and when it was coming back. I remember being in Philadelphia, over a year after the last “TT” vlog had been posted. I was meeting with a customer and one of the attendees at the meeting said “Hey – you’re the Tachyon Tuesday guy!” like he had recognized a celebrity – I think he had to hold himself back from asking for an autograph! :D
Even though it had been dormant for a year, we had internal and external resources using the tips and tricks, use cases and stories shared in that vlog/blog to learn more about how to use the platform and what it could do for them. I think it’s still used today by some.
Speaking with our CEO, Mark Banfield the other day, he suggested we start something like that up again. This time around, I think LinkedIn is a better place to host it – and so it’ll be living right here.

We won’t be calling it Tachyon Tuesday, and it won’t follow exactly the same formula… but… I think “The DEX Files” is a good name – the goal will be to introduce new and interesting DEX use cases and to discuss how they are achieved.
Certain DEX companies limit their definitions of “DEX” to focus mostly on monitoring experience and maybe add on the concept of end-user/customer surveys. 1E sees DEX as encompassing everything that affects how employees interact with digital tools, from software performance to hardware availability. It’s the art of minimizing frustration and maximizing productivity.
That doesn’t just come from one area of IT. If a company implements security measures that cause frustration, DEX is related to Security. If they push an update that causes user frustration, DEX relates to patching and updates. If end-users can’t get the right hardware or software to do their jobs effectively – DEX relates to hardware and software purchasing decisions.
DEX is about understanding and minimizing end-user frustration with their digital devices. It isn’t simply passive, it must include automations and remediations which reduce frustration (and/or increase employees appreciation of/with) their enterprise digital experience. By considering security, updates, network connectivity, hardware, and software as interconnected pieces, we create a harmonious digital ecosystem. Employees thrive when these elements align.
The next installment will discuss how to better understand which devices are driving user frustration and what you can do about that. Be sure to follow me here on LinkedIn to get updated when the next (first!) DEX File is shared in the coming days.
