Industry Insights:?

November Jobs Report:

The latest Employment Situation Report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed strong job growth in November, with nonfarm payroll employment increasing by 227,000. The unemployment rate remained steady at 4.2%.??

As we move into the holiday season, employment gains were notable in healthcare (+54,000 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+53,000), government (+33,000), and social assistance (+19,000), while retail trade saw a decline (-28,000). Transportation equipment manufacturing also saw an increase of 32,000 jobs, reflecting the return of workers following a strike, while retail trade experienced a decline (-28,000). Other major industries, including mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction; construction; wholesale trade; transportation and warehousing; information; financial activities; professional and business services; and other services, showed little to no change over the month.?

Average hourly earnings increased by 0.4% to $35.61, marking a 4.0% rise over the past year. The average workweek edged up to 34.3 hours. Revisions for September and October revealed a combined increase of 56,000 jobs from previous estimates. As the year wraps up, these trends offer valuable insights for businesses planning ahead for 2025 and job seekers evaluating year-end opportunities.?

This month, we turned to our LinkedIn community of 300K+ professionals to share thoughts on gratitude, career changes, workplace flexibility, and even adjusting to daylight saving time. Your input helps us stay connected to what’s happening in workplaces everywhere. Here’s what we learned in November:

• What are you most grateful for in your career this Thanksgiving??Gratitude was top of mind as we asked what you’re most thankful for in your career. Building relationships came out on top with 34% of voters, followed by learning new things (28%), making an impact (22%), and achieving goals (16%). This poll was a great reminder of the meaningful aspects of our professional lives. View the poll here.?
• Which most accurately describes your current employment situation??Careers are constantly evolving, and we wanted to know where our community stands. A strong 69% of respondents are actively applying, highlighting a competitive job market, while 17% are ready for a change and exploring their next steps. Meanwhile, 9% are settling into new roles, and 6% have reached their dream job. These insights highlight opportunities for businesses to connect with motivated candidates while giving job seekers a better understanding of the current job market. View the poll here.?
• Does your company offer remote or hybrid work options??Flexibility continues to be a hot topic. Our poll revealed that 44% of respondents work fully remote, while 36% enjoy a hybrid model, and 20% remain in-office full time. For employers, these results emphasize that remote work isn’t going anywhere and offering flexible options can be a key factor in attracting and retaining top talent. View the poll here.?
• How well are you adjusting to the time change??Daylight saving time always brings mixed feelings, so we checked in to see how everyone was doing. While 46% are back to normal, 33% are still adjusting, 14% are totally off schedule, and 7% said they don’t experience a time change in their state. View the poll here.?
