October Jobs Report?

The latest Employment Situation Report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed minimal change in job growth, with nonfarm payroll employment increasing by just 12,000 in October. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.1%. Employment gains continued in healthcare (+52,000) and government (+40,000), while manufacturing declined (-46,000) due to strike activity, and temporary help services saw a substantial drop (-49,000).?

Employment in construction was relatively stable, adding 8,000 jobs, with nonresidential specialty trade contractors contributing an increase of 14,000 positions. Other major industries, including mining, quarrying , and oil and gas extraction, wholesale trade, retail trade, transportation and warehousing , information , financial activities , leisure and hospitality, and other services, showed little to no change over the month.?

Average hourly earnings rose by 0.4% to $35.46, marking a 4.0% increase over the past year. The average workweek remained steady at 34.3 hours. Revisions for August and September revealed a combined decrease of 112,000 jobs from previous estimates. This month, we turned to our LinkedIn community to get insights on Halloween spirit at work, remote work preferences, and how the changing season impacts productivity. Thanks to everyone who engaged with our polls—your input keeps us connected to the latest workplace trends! Here’s what we learned in October:?

• Seasonal Productivity Changes: We asked how the changing seasons impact productivity. For most (55%), productivity remains steady no matter the season, but 24% reported feeling more productive in the fall. Meanwhile, 21% admitted seasonal changes make it a bit harder to stay focused. • Preferred Remote Work Setup: Curious about remote work preferences, we asked where our community likes to work when at home. A dedicated home office was the top choice for 91% of respondents, with 6% choosing a cozy spot on the couch and 2% working from a local café. Meanwhile, 1% had their own unique setups! • Ideal Fall Workday: To find out how people embrace the fall season, we asked what their ideal autumn workday includes. Taking a walk break was the top choice, with 44% getting outside, followed by 31% cozying up with a warm drink. Football fans made their presence known at 19%, while 5% shared other creative ways to enjoy the season. View the poll here .?

• Halloween at Work:?We asked our followers if they dressed up for Halloween at work. A festive 15% went all out with full costumes, 14% kept it simple, and 1% forgot their costume at home. Meanwhile, 70% opted out but enjoyed the fun atmosphere.?View the poll here .?
