Welcome to the August edition of our newsletter!
For four decades, we’ve partnered with scientists around the globe, providing cutting-edge?microplate readers?designed to drive forward research and discovery. From vaccine development and antibody discovery to cancer and diabetes research, our products have been at the forefront, delivering precision, reliability, and versatility. We’re proud of our rich history, but our eyes are set on the future.
?As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we continue to innovate, driven by the same commitment that sparked our journey – to empower scientists to change lives and make the world a better place. Here’s to the past, present, and exciting discoveries yet to come.
The importance of introducing diversity earlier in drug development?
In this Drug Discovery World article, Reece Armstrong?speaks to?Shan Dhamija, our Vice President of Strategy and Innovation, about why U.S. clinical trial diversity is at its lowest point in the last 10 years.
The answer partly lies in deep-rooted fears and historical atrocities, but there's hope through advocacy programs, decentralized approaches, and more.?
Curing the Image Analysis Headache with Deep Learning
In this Technology Networks article, Molecular Devices image analysis software expert Misha Bashkurov, PhD, discusses how deep learning is revolutionizing the field of image analysis and addressing the challenges researchers face in optimizing analysis parameters.
As image analysis is critical in various applications like drug discovery, integrating deep learning promises to accelerate research efforts and provide more reliable results.
Application Spotlight
Cultured meat is an emerging technology, which is crucial to supply the increasing meat demand while being more environmentally and animal friendly than conventional meat production. Current workflows to generate single cell clones employ limiting dilution, which inherently is rather inefficient, or flow cytometry-based cell sorting, which is stressful especially for primary cells. As such we aimed to establish a gentle and efficient single clone generation pipeline.
Here, we compared the clone generation with the DispenCell Single-Cell Dispenser in terms of clonality, efficiency and survival as well as proliferation with a flow-based system.
New Lab Notes Blog
This blog post authored by Compliance Program Manager Timothy Bolus, MPM, MBA, outlines references to 21 CFR Part 11 and EudraLex Annex 11 and how they apply to the implementation of?SoftMax? Pro GxP Data Acquisition and Analysis Software in regulated environments.

New Lab Notes Blog
In this GxP Regulated Industry Assessments of Microplate Readers Lab Notes blog, we outline references to 21 CFR Parts 58, 211 and 820 and EudraLex Annex 15 to assess the implementation of Molecular Devices microplate readers?in regulated environments.
Application Spotlight
In this app note, learn how we implemented high-content imaging of 3D brain micro-tissues to discover deeper insights and successfully develop an algorithm to analyze the neurites, nodes, and cell bodies. In addition, this innovative combination of high-content imaging?with 3D human brain micro-tissues was applied to drug screening to reveal greater mechanistic insights as an industrial drug-screening platform.
Application Spotlight
?In this application note, we discuss the induction of an IBD-like phenotype on healthy human rectal organoids using pro-inflammatory cytokines and demonstrate the use of Gri3D? as a robust and high-throughput in vitro platform for organoid-based disease modeling.?
New Scientific Poster
In?this poster, we describe methods for assembling human iPSC-derived cell types, including glutamatergic neurons, GABAergic neurons, and astrocytes into 3D neurospheres.?
This biological system of 3D neurospheres paired with?high-content imaging?and detailed analysis of calcium oscillations demonstrates a promising and easily implemented tool for disease modeling and compound testing.?
