Welcome to another edition of our Industrial real estate news roundup!

The?I.CON East industrial real estate conference?and there were some noteworthy comments that came from it.

Starting with the chief economist from The?Conference Board saying their “Leading Economic Indicator has been signaling a recession for the last year starting in the second quarter. If not this quarter, then next quarter".

The economist was more upbeat on industrial, however, noting “[it's] a great sector because the country needs big spaces for reshoring and nearshoring of our manufacturing.”

There were other comments about?multi-storey buildings and sustainability driving the conversation about future projections of the?industry.

Another interesting note came regarding supply chain logjams and how companies are adapting to the situation. Panelists suggested companies are looking beyond the major port markets and also pointed to a recent survey about?the vast majority of CEO's considering reshoring.

China will continue to be the world's factory for the foreseeable future, but there is an undeniable shift taking place. So much so that?China's imports into the US have dropped to the lowest levels since 2006. Or in other words, the?China Plus One strategy?is intensifying.

Ending on an encouraging note, there's more attention being brought to the fact that?commercial real estate extends well beyond just office buildings. I suspect we'll continue hearing about the pressures some asset classes are experiencing for awhile, so hopefully there's more public conversations about differentiating between the sub-categories.
