The killer app of Gemini Pro 1.5 is video

Gemini Pro 1.5 is an enormous upgrade for the Gemini series. The model has a 1,000,000 token context size, much larger than Claude 2.1's 200,000 and GPT-4-Turbo's 128,000 token context sizes. While the model can still miss things and hallucinate incorrect details, it is able to process and extract text information from short videos. The ability to extract structured content from text is already one of the most exciting use-cases for LLMs. GPT-4 Vision and LLaVA expanded that to images. And now Gemini Pro 1.5 expands that to video.

Google goes “open AI” with Gemma

Google's new family of AI language models, Gemma, are free open-weights models built on technology similar to Gemini. Gemma models can run locally on a desktop or laptop computer. There are two models: Gemma 2B (2 billion parameters) and Gemma 7B (7 billion parameters), each available in pre-trained and instruction-tuned variants. Google claims the 7 billion parameter model outperforms Meta's Llama-2 7B and 13B models on several benchmarks in math, Python code generation, general knowledge, and commonsense reasoning tasks. This is Google's first significant open large language model release since OpenAI's ChatGPT was revealed in late 2022.

Microsoft brings AI to the Super Bowl

Microsoft Copilot ad?that aired in front of over a hundred million viewers during this year’s Super Bowl really got my attention. The minute-long commercial backs up its claims with a montage of rapid-fire examples in which users tap it to move their dreams forward—presumably making their doubting haters seethe. But we all know commercials can differ a lot from reality. Can Microsoft’s new AI Copilot?actually?perform the tasks as they were demonstrated on television screens across America? Let’s try to unpack it.

The One-person Billion-dollar Company

OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman recently said that a one-person billion-dollar company may soon emerge. This will supposedly be made possible with AI tools as work could be outsourced to an army of artificial intelligence agents. The size of the distribution required, coupled with the ability of anyone to make anything with the same AI tools, makes the one-person billion-dollar company incredibly challenging if not impossible. There's a significant opportunity for ambitious people to build solo businesses in the $1-10 million ARR range, but after that, it's probably best to hire people and cultivate your customer networks with intimate understanding of human emotions and motivations to help grow your enterprise.

Future Skills for Kids: Nvidia CEO Challenges Coding Norms with AI Advocacy

At the recent World Government Summit in Dubai, Nvidia CEO?Jensen Huang said kids shouldn’t spend previous time and energy learning how to code. He made a strong argument that AI will allow programming languages to be replaced with human language prompts, thus enabling everyone to be a programmer if you master the art of asking the right question in the right way. Thus, the only language people would need is the language they were born and raised to speak, and are already experts in.?

Indeed, it is controversial, but it has prompted me to contemplate and has instilled hope that it might spark broader debates. These discussions should not only focus on how AI will influence our present lives but also on its potential impact on future generations to come.
