Welcome to 2025 – and our January Roundup.
University Hospitals Birmingham Charity
Supporting patients, families and staff across Queen Elizabeth Birmingham, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals.
This year we are excited to help our fundraisers #StriveIn2025 and reach new heights, tackle fears, and reach for the skies all in aid of their local hospital charity. To make this happen we’ve been busy this month preparing some exciting events to look forward to in 2025.
Meet fabulous fundraiser, David
The new year is the perfect opportunity to try something for the first time and we have a variety of events taking place throughout 2025 for you to get involved with to help us raise money for patients, their families and staff at your local hospital.
31-year-old NHS worker, David Coppage lost an incredible 20 stone in nine months after a weight loss operation to save his life. He took part in the Great Birmingham Run last year as a way of saying thank you to the NHS and has already signed up to run the half marathon this May to raise money for the hospital charity.
David has struggled with his weight since he was a child. With support from his colleagues, he decided to have weight loss surgery and managed to lose 20 stone within nine months, astounding his doctors as it normally takes patients two years to lose 70% of their body weight, which he lost in half that time!
To keep himself focused he signed up to the Birmingham half marathon to raise funds for the Diabetes Ward where he works.
If David has inspired you to get fit and raise money for your local hospital, sign up to one of our running events and Run for Brum: hospitalcharity.org/events/great-birmingham-run

In 2024, some of our lucky fundraisers joined us for our first overseas event, a trek to see the Northern Lights. On their trek across Iceland, they saw the awe-inspiring beauty of mountains, glaciers and of course, staggering displays of the Northern Lights.?? ?
If you fancy taking on a challenge like this, join us this year on our once-in-a-life-time trek to China, where you will get to walk a remote section of the?Great Wall of China.
