Weitzman ECHO Celebrates 10 Years

Weitzman ECHO Celebrates 10 Years

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the first Project ECHO session offered by CHC. Dr. Sanjeev Arora at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center started Project ECHO to meet the needs of patients with limited access to specialists. CHC was the first Federally Qualified Health Center to operate Project ECHO clinics.

Project ECHO uses teleconferencing and case-based learning to expand access to specialty care for underserved patients by helping primary care teams manage cases that would otherwise be referred out to specialists. We all owe a great debt of gratitude to Dr. Arora for developing this important model and all the staff at CHC and the Weitzman Institute. They have used this model to provide information of critical importance to safety net providers.

Over the past ten years, they have produced more than 1500 ECHO sessions for over 7,500 providers from every state in the nation, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
