Weird Musings

Humans tend to anthropomorphize animals, objects, and the old gods.

?

The term refers to attributing human traits to things around them. Perhaps that is why the old gods were so flawed. They often acted like the worst of humanity.

?

Consequently, “Sometimes, I feel like a box of cereal” makes a lot of sense to this lady.

?

If you are wondering what the box of cereal reference relates to, it is knees crackling and snapping. Although joint cracking is often age-related, in this lady’s case, it manifested even in her youth.

?

Her most embarrassing instance was while she attended Villanova University (at the time, it was an all-male university, except for her being there because her father was a professor at the university).

?

She recalls rushing up the stairs to class, and her knees started popping. For some reason, that embarrassed her, perhaps because it garnered what she felt was negative attention from the other students—not that anyone ever commented on it.

?

The crackling sound can be caused by gas escaping from a synovial membrane, which protects the joints they surround. According to online information from the Cleveland Clinic, “they work with your cartilage, tendons and?ligaments?to reduce friction between the bones in your joints — especially when you’re moving them.”

?

Hence, the reference to feeling like a box of cereal. More specifically, Rice Krispies. Snap. Crackle. Pop. Get it?

?

Let’s continue with the anthropomorphization of cereals, shall we?

?

If you think you feel like oatmeal, the answer can be twofold. Either you are in the throes of a major crush and have that mushy sensation around your heart, or you have an upset stomach and are ready to hurl. Take your pick. There is no judgment here.

?

That grainy sensation in your tired eyes is like they have been turned into cream of wheat. There is just enough crunch to it to be annoying.

?

Of course, this lady’s least favorite human behavior is when someone, usually a seasoned citizen, feels entitled to act grumpy and rude. That is a hard, able-to-break-your-teeth granola bar.

?

The following is a true granola bar story.

?

A friend of Romanian birth traveled to Romania to check on her elderly mother- a real-life granola bar.

?

In the past few years, the mother lost her husband as well as her adult son to cancer. So, it is understandable that she is lonely. What is inexcusable for a person who has inhabited this planet for over eighty years is to toss the niceties that make humans somewhat civilized. In other words, the woman exists in the realm of Rude.

?

The daughter spent days moving and cleaning behind and under everything in the apartment, including the refrigerator. While the daughter was in the middle of that project, her mother demanded to be fed, expecting her to drop everything to obey her mother’s demands.

?

“Mother, could you please wait half an hour so I can reach a stopping point? Then, I will prepare your meal,” the daughter asked. Instead of listening to her daughter’s pleas, the mother stormed away in a huff.

?

Later, when the daughter told her mother the food was ready, the mother snarled, “I’m not hungry,” and refused to eat—showing zero gratitude for her child’s hard work.

?

The woman is in poor health and lives alone on the fifth floor of an apartment building without an elevator. Her daughter tried to hire someone to check on her, clean, and do the shopping, but no one was interested. So, she found a suitable senior living facility.

?

After a week, the mother returned to the apartment, claiming everyone was rude, disliked being around people, and hated living there.

?

The mother was rude and yelled at everyone, including her caregivers and the director.

?

Her mother was not like that too much when her father was alive. But now, the rude, demanding, unpleasant person she had been while working as a prosecutor under the communist regime resurfaced.

?

Throughout history, Eastern Europeans suffered invasion and hardship. So now, many choose to be miserable.

?

This lady hopes she never turns into a granola bar.

Sounds like the daughter needs to have a face-to-face heart-to-heart discussion about boundaries.
