Weird decision making

How are you at making decisions?

Do you make them rapidly based on the limited information you know and a gut instinct?

Or do you take your time to gather more information?

Weighing the pros and cons first?

Maybe ask others for their opinions and either follow them or just ignore them?

Eventually, will you decide after a long time and effort, or will you choose not to do anything?

How often have you had decision paralysis?

Or how often have those impulsive decisions got you into trouble?

Life is all about decisions.

Every moment we make thousands of choices, consciously and unconsciously.

So why, for some of us, is it so easy to make decisions, and for others, it is so difficult?

"A 3-panel comic featuring a stick man. In each panel, the stick man looks puzzled, then unhappy in the third panel. Each panel has a signpost with multiple directions. The first signpost reads 'Future,' the second 'Success,' and the third 'Bad choices.' The title reads 'Is the fear of failure paralyzing your path to success?'"
Decisions, decisions, decisions

And why are some decisions easier than others?

For some, quick decisions may be due to not wanting to research as it is boring or they are just naturally impulsive.

For others, the fear and anxiousness of making the wrong decision can be a major cause of decision paralysis.

How will others judge us if we get it wrong?

In business, the quality of your decisions can make or break your business.

A snap decision that turns out wrong can be costly.

A delayed decision can mean we miss opportunities.

Decision paralysis can become overwhelming and cause us mental and emotional issues.

This is why it is important in our business that we set things up, so we have to take fewer day-to-day decisions.

We only have a certain amount of energy (or spoons for some of us) for decisions before we reach decision fatigue.

This is why systems and processes are so important in any business, as it means fewer day-to-day decisions need to be made.

But that is easier for some than others.

One of my weird behaviours is being great at setting up systems and processes (especially for others) but failing to follow them consistently myself.

This is more common than most people think from my experience working with clients, especially in the creative fields and with other coaches.

Luckily, I have found ways to work around this and am happy to help anyone else who struggles with this.

But let’s get back to decision-making before I get too sidetracked (which is one of the reasons I don’t follow my process as I should).

One of the best ways to make better and more consistent decisions is to talk it through with someone you trust.

Why?

Well, when we verbalise and explain our thoughts, we get a new and better understanding of the decision.

If that person can ask powerful and insightful questions, then you can get a better understanding of the situation and what is influencing your decision.

Speaking to someone enables you to make better decisions more constantly.

This is one of the massive benefits of having a qualified coach around you.

When working with your coach, you can expect a safe space to explore your thoughts and be challenged regarding the most important decisions for your business.

As they are separate from your business, they can be more objective.

They have the skills to enable you to think in new ways about the situation.

And, if you work with me, there will be a few weird ideas thrown in to help you.

Occasionally, approaching a problem with unconventional thinking can result in revolutionary ideas that surpass traditional solutions.

These are ones that you would never think about, but they give you a whole new set of opportunities.

What sort of decision-maker are you?

Would you like to make better, more consistent decisions?

What would that do for your business?

What was the weirdest idea you had that opened unexpected opportunities?

NeuroWeird Networker

When done properly and on purpose, networking is a powerful way to build relationships that will help your business succeed.

Networking can be daunting, especially if you’re different from others.

Here are some tips to get you started:

Start Small and Build Confidence

Begin with smaller gatherings where you can express yourself without the pressure of a large crowd. These intimate settings are perfect for practising essential skills like small talk and eye contact. Remember, mistakes are part of the learning process. You’re not alone, and it is ok to make them. Most other networkers will have made the same mistakes themselves. A small group is the best place to make and learn from these mistakes, so you are better equipped for the bigger groups in the future.??

Leverage Existing Connections

Seek networking opportunities within groups where you already know people. Familiar faces can reduce anxiety, making it easier to engage in meaningful conversations. It’s always comforting to have someone who understands you and will support you. ??

Bring a Friend Along

Feeling overwhelmed at the thought of going alone?

Invite a friend/colleague to a networking event with you.

They can introduce you to others and highlight your strengths, providing support when you might feel too shy to speak about your achievements. Having a familiar face by your side makes all the difference to the experience and the outcomes you will get.

Practice Self-care

Networking can be tiring, so remember to care for yourself. Schedule downtime before and after events to recharge. Take breaks when needed, whether by stepping outside for fresh air or taking a moment for yourself. Your well-being comes first.

Celebrate Your Uniqueness

Being different is not just okay; it's powerful. Your unique perspective can inspire and lead to innovative solutions. Don't hide your quirks; embrace them! They make you who you are, and that’s something to celebrate. ??

We’re all a bit 'weird' in our own ways. Let's redefine what’s normal when it comes to networking and celebrate being wonderfully unique.

Are you ready to unlock your potential and start networking with confidence?
