Good day All, please excuse the delay in me sharing this. As soon as I was finished with the event, I went straight into the day-to-day of my full time job and handling archery programs.
The event was a success because it did the following:
- Raised awareness of National School Counseling Week (NSCW) in NYC
- Showed counseling professionals that recognizing and appreciating one another is very important
- Established an awesome venue, St. Francis College, that should be used going further
- Reconfirmed in me that our counseling professionals need all the support and help we can give them
The event made me a little sad because out of 358 registered only about 150 showed up for both day and evening. But the thank yous and appreciations that was shared that day cheered me up considerable.
Out of this event I realized that advocating and supporting counseling professionals in whatever way that works for them is my goal. So, the following has happened:
- Created a website that is: "A place where NYC counseling professionals & their supporters can share resources and be appreciative of each other's workâ€.
- Started a cadence of sending out weekly newsletter. You can find previous newsletters on website newsletter.weintervene.org and it is private so you can use the code, “smile†to see them.
- Added a Service Providers listing directory so that supporters or the readership can add services accordingly on their own
- Started the Hidden Gems Recognition Awards :-)
- And I plan on doing so much more to make the site inclusive and easy to use for counseling professionals.
We have more work to do to get 100% of principals and assistant principals recognizing and appreciating school counselors before, during and after NSCW. Attached is the result from a small survey poll that gives me some tangible data to work with. My goal next year is to have 45% of respondents being thanked or acknowledged during NSCW for their work. I have numerous ideas on how to do this. So, I will be chipping away at the game plan in the background.
