The Weight of Waiting

The Weight of Waiting

The simple thing and the hardest thing are the same thing. Crazy right?

Over two decades now, I have sat with founders to shape their personal and professional stories to the benefit of their market profile. What has always amazed me is this: by the time we begin working together, my clients have usually been tossing around the idea of writing a book for many, many years.

Procrastination is The Greatest Enemy of Revenue

There is a very damaging cliché. We have all heard it. "It's never too late." That is a lie from the pit of hell. Sorry, but someone has to tell you the truth. That open window of opportunity eventually becomes a slit, and the slit eventually becomes sealed shut. It takes wisdom and courage to know when you are in the sweet spot of your career, and to write your book to take full advantage of the experience, skill, and charisma you possess.

The Story You Need to Tell is The One You Have Never Told

Elevator pitches have done so much damage. I say this because we usually select the very best of what we have done, who we are, and what we can do. We take this and place it in a bite-sized kernel and then feel proud that we didn't take more than a few seconds to say everything important about our professional profile. After writing 25 books, as of this writing, I can tell you this: The most powerful, influential information you have that would change your entire life is the information you have never shared with anyone. You are living on acres of diamonds but refuse to dig.

Stocks and Bonds Have Conditioned us to Believe The Best Investment is Not Us

Isn't it interesting that from childhood we are exposed to investing in our future by investing in someone else's ideas? Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA are all incredible companies, but each one was someone else's idea. No broker or portfolio manager ever showed you how to assemble a portfolio of your own ideas and then encouraged you to invest in you. And while we are comfortable investing in the S&P and patiently wait for our compounded returns, what would be the return if you compounded your own talents and gifts over the same time frame?

The heaviest weight slowing down the success of you and your business is the wait. Start digging. Tell your true story today, don't wait another second. Not another second.
