Will A Weight Loss Program Work For You?

If you’re an overweight Dad considering a weight loss program because it's something you can't do on your own, keep reading, because this article will help you determine which is the right program for you.
?
The first thing you need to identify are the obstacles stopping you from achieving your weight loss goals, what you believe will help you overcome them and if it would work with your busy lifestyle.
Here are some suggested criteria that most Dads I speak with need.
?
A Proven Plan
?
A lot of the Dads that come to me for help with their weight loss need education on the right food choices. They're not sure what to eat or how much to eat, or they do know this but they just need a plan to follow given to them by a professional that knows what they're doing.?
If they can trust that professional and the process, then they're willing to follow it because they know it's going to get them results. Don't just go for a generic meal plan that's catered for the general population, that's not going to work with your lifestyle as a busy Dad.?
You want to do something sustainable. If it's simple, there's a high chance of you being able to sustain it for the long term. Because once that program is over, you want to make sure that's something that you can follow yourself without having a coach or a trainer by your side the whole time for the rest of your life.
?
Accountability & Support
?
For some people, it's because they don't have anyone watching over what they do or to report to, to make sure they adhere to it. So accountability might be something that they need. They need to be followed up on, not just with their eating habits, but their healthy habits, whether it be sleep, alcohol and hydration. So it's not all just about diet.?
Some programs might include exercise too. So knowing what exercise to do, to lose that weight and something that's going to work with your lifestyle, time-wise and location-wise is going to be something that you need to look for.?
The other thing that you should be looking for, is the level of support. The level of support? you're going to get over the program. See how regular the coach is checking in with you, it could be daily, weekly or monthly.?
Also determine how much access you need to the coach for you to be successful, do you need direct access for questions so you don’t get stuck. If you're the type of person that's quite inquisitive and you need to get answers to questions, then you would want daily direct access.
?
Proof
?
The other thing that you should be looking for is credibility. There are so many programs out there and you may be bombarded by different ads and different coaches approaching you saying ‘join my program’, but you need to make sure they have credibility.?
So how do you find that credibility??
Testimonials and social proof. Make sure they have a decent amount of testimonials and not just the same few they use over and over. Before and after photos are good but don’t rely just on that as they can be fake or copied from another coach!?

Video testimonials can be faked as well. There are coaches out there paying actors to film fake testimonials, so look out for those, it’s a big red flag. If they sound like they are scripted and not genuine, run!
?
The Coach
?
You also need to be aligned with the person in charge of the program, whether it be the trainer, the expert or the coach. You need to be aligned with them and get along with them for you to work together. You’re going to be in a relationship throughout the whole program. You want that person to have your best interest in mind throughout the whole journey. You need to be accountable to that trainer or coach. You need to show that you're dedicated and committed to the program.
?
Pre-Program Conversation
?
Hopefully before you decide to go on a program, there'll be a conversation that you have with someone from the program. You have to question whether they care about who they take on board or whether they're just doing it as a business. They should be seeing what your situation is, what issues you're facing with weight loss, what you need and whether the program will help you or not.
?
Guarantee Results
?
Lastly, the thing that will help you choose whether you join a weight loss program or not, is if they guarantee results. If they can guarantee results, it’s going to give you a greater reassurance it will work and take away the risk.
?
That’s the main criteria you should be looking for in a weight loss program before committing to one, whether it be now or in the future.
?
With that in mind, there's still that slight risk that the program might not work for you. If you have done your research, then all you can do is just commit to it, you're just going to have to do it even if it's a slight risk because the only way we can explore and find success is by exploring failure.?
We need to accept failure throughout our lives. Because if we're not failing, I believe we’re not trying hard enough. So whether that means you try a program and you fail, then so be it. You will learn from that and you'll know what was missing in that program or what you need to find in the next program.
