There are many studies shows if we focus only on calorie restriction, it may show some weight reduction, but they regain again. Also, there are studies where group of people overfed by 2-3 times more and they also came back to normal weight after then stopped the program.
If calorie is not the major reason, then what is that controls our weight. Importantly we should be looking at whether we are creating a caloric deficiency through our diet or should we look at what is that controlling that calorie difference. Then many of us conclude that it is our diet and exercise that controls that caloric difference.
Right kind of diet helps not only in balanced calorie intake but also brings up various hormonal balance in our body. And right kind of exercise upregulates our metabolic rate (bigger part of daily calorie consumption). Remember, this is far bigger than our energy consumption through exercise.
Then ultimately this shifts our body's set weight. The weight at which we neither gain nor lose weight for a long run.
The major takeaway: It is not only just what we are eating we need to understand, but also majorly about why we are eating what we are eating needs more introspection.
