TAYLORS 2014 CLARE VALLEY ESTATE SHIRAZ - This gorgeous wine (at just one year old) was awarded at this year's Mainfreight World's Greatest Syrah & Shiraz Challenge X, the trophy for Best Australian Shiraz as well as Best Australian Shiraz under $25. It stole the show with an awesome score of 19.5, the highest score ever awarded in the Challenge's history.
Taylors Shiraz has always been a great wine. I can remember in the mid-1980s (when I was an accountant and before I joined the wine industry) going to Grace Bros Broadway with a work mate on payday to stock up on wine for the next month. It usually involved the purchase of a Taylors wine – often as not a Shiraz.
This wine continues Taylor's tradition of giving great flavour and excellent value for money.
It has masses of lovely bright purple colour, a gentle, elegant bouquet and a great big gob-full of ubber yummy flavours with really good fine tannins on the finish.
An all-round cracker of a wine which will continue to evolve as it matures over the next few years IF you can keep your hands off it – good luck trying. Cheers!
