1. Meta’s AI Studio may increase ad sales
Meta has launched AI Studio, a new tool allowing users to create, share, and customize their own AI chatbots for various purposes. This move is part of the company’s strategy to use AI for driving engagement across its social media platforms, including Instagram and Messenger. Meta anticipates a 20% rise in ad sales for Q2, driven by events like the Olympics and the elections, but it faces scrutiny on whether its significant investment in AI is yielding returns. Its focus on open-source AI and enhanced ad tools aims to bolster its revenue streams and maintain its competitive edge in the tech industry.
Snapchat hopes to connect with younger audiences and boost engagement with the 2024 Olympics by introducing various augmented reality (AR) experiences, including AR Lenses and filters created in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). These features are available through both Snapchat and the official Paris 2024 Olympic Games app, providing fans with immersive interactions and access to Olympic highlights and images.
Reddit has introduced Lead Generation Ads in public beta, allowing businesses to collect high-quality leads directly from its engaged user base. The ads are integrated with Zapier for seamless CRM transfers and automated lead management, while being mobile-optimized and privacy-focused. Advertisers have reported better lead quality and campaign performance during beta testing, with clear improvements in cost and submission rates.

X is hiring 100 new employees for a "Trust and Safety center of excellence" in Austin, focusing on enforcing rules against violence, hate speech, and child sexual exploitation. This move comes as CEO Linda Yaccarino prepares to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on protecting children online. Despite the increase in hires, the new moderation team is still significantly smaller than the 1,500 moderators X had before Elon Musk's overhaul of the platform.
The Justice Department has accused TikTok of gathering bulk information on U.S. users' views on sensitive issues like abortion and gun control, using a system called Lark to transfer data to ByteDance employees in China. This has raised concerns about potential content manipulation and national security risks, leading the government to challenge TikTok’s mitigation plan, Project Texas. TikTok argues that a potential ban infringes on First Amendment rights and that the government has not provided sufficient evidence for its claims.
