Plenty opens world’s most technologically advanced indoor vertical farm in Compton

The world’s most technologically advanced indoor vertical farm, designed to grow up to 4.5 million pounds of leafy greens annually in a single city block, has opened in Compton, California. “After investing nearly a decade into R&D, Plenty has cracked the code on a scalable platform for indoor farming,” commented Plenty? CEO, Arama Kukutai . “With Plenty’s first commercial farm, we’re proving that our uniquely vertical indoor farms can deliver a reliable, year-round supply of fresh produce with positive unit economics

Future space food could be made from astronaut breath

To solve the problem of feeding astronauts on long-duration missions, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration started the Deep Space Food Challenge in January 2021, asking companies to propose novel ways to develop sustainable foods for future missions. On 19 May, NASA announced the teams that will progress into the final phase of the contest, with a handful of winners to be announced in April 2024 following more detailed tests of their proposals. GoodLeaf Farms welcomes CIBC and Farm Credit Canada as lenders in financing its national expansion

GoodLeaf Farms , one of the largest vertical farming companies in Canada, has announced that it has secured a US$78 million syndicated debt financing from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce ( CIBC ) and FCC / FAC . "We are excited to partner with CIBC, Farm Credit Canada and Export Development Canada as we continue to expand our operations and deepen our leadership position in vertical farming," commented Barry Murchie , CEO at GoodLeaf. "We look forward to working closely with these leading institutions in addressing the challenges faced by Canada's current agricultural system"

Revol Greens unveils new Texas facility to meet increased demand

Revol Greens has debuted what it claims is the world's single-largest CEA lettuce facility ever built, in Temple, Texas. It boasts technologies such as AI tools to monitor and adjust climate control, irrigation, and energy management for maximum output and efficiency 365 days a year. "This is a milestone moment for our team," enthused Michael Wainscott, CPA CITP CGMA , CEO of Revol Greens . "We are on a mission to provide fresh, affordable lettuce to consumers across the country. The addition of the Temple facility opens new markets to Revol Greens allowing for further reduction of food miles typically traveled within the US salad market"

Virginia, USA Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed legislation to expand sales tax exemptions for CEA commercial facilities, according to Sarah Roderick-Fitch, writing in the?Washington Examiner. The new law will promote emerging agriculture cultivation systems, which proponents believe will create a source of sustainable, nutritious food options – aiding worldwide food insecurity
