UAE Introduces New Pension Law, Prioritizing Equity and Aid for Working Mothers
The UAE has introduced a new federal law aimed at enhancing efficiency and equity within the pension system for Emiratis. This law aims to provide increased flexibility and advantages for pensioners, particularly benefiting working mothers. The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) announced that, per the new law, "insured women who are married, divorced, or widowed can apply for retirement pensions. The minimum age and subscription duration may be reduced for those who are mothers of five or more children." Working mothers now have the opportunity to access retirement pensions at a younger age and with a shorter subscription period. Additionally, if a mother chooses to take leave to care for her children, she can maintain her optional subscription, adhering to the outlined terms and conditions.
Sharjah to Implement Stricter Housing Regulations for Singles
Sharjah's residential neighbourhoods will see stricter housing regulations for single individuals following directives from the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC). This decision was reached during the council's weekly meeting chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council. The council examined a recent report detailing the housing situation of single residents in the emirate's neighbourhoods, assessed existing regulations, and evaluated the social, economic, and security implications.
