Let the articles inspire and ignite your imagination about the future of work and provide insights and strategies you can leverage to help your organization thrive and make work more human.
With remote and hybrid work, traditional performance reviews based on a top-down, hierarchical approach are becoming less effective for executives to understand the performance and contribution of their employees. Executives lose the peripheral vision they had in the office, and the Dunbar's number, the maximum number of people we can really know, shrinks from 150 to 50. The current method also needs more key information and often creates noise, resulting in confusion about who is driving value and who is creating drag in the organization. According to the article, to address this issue, companies should adopt a new approach called Organizational Network Analysis (ONA), where every person at the company can provide feedback about any other person, and the manager's review is augmented by feedback from the network. ONA offers a data-driven approach for reviews and helps remove the bias, making them more accurate and in line with the new way of remote and hybrid working. With the labor shortage post-pandemic, retaining high performers and identifying flight risks becomes even more critical, making it important to adopt a more effective performance review process.
You still haven't tried ChatGPT? The CEO of the firm behind ChatGPT believes that "generative text is something we all need to adapt to." The use of AI tools in the workplace can help improve productivity and make jobs easier, but it is crucial for companies to establish rules for employee use of these tools and for workers to be careful about misinformation. ChatGPT can be used for research, writing, data analysis, time management, and scheduling tasks. It can provide quick answers, analyze large amounts of data, and help prioritize tasks. Using AI tools in the workplace can free up time and make the job more enjoyable by allowing workers to focus on generating ideas and asking the right questions. ChatGPT is not always accurate but gets smarter with use and can provide quick answers and simplify complex information. According to the article, "Most companies also haven't established formal rules around employee use of the AI tool, though firms like Microsoft – a major partner and investor of ChatGPT's parent Open AI – have recently given employees the green light to use the chatbot for work purposes, as long as they don't share sensitive information with the site. My advice for leaders...Jump in with both feet, try it, and start developing the skill of communicating with and leveraging generative AI tools now. ?This article begins with a powerful statement. “The economic crisis poses leadership challenges that many leaders doubt they can overcome”. Self-doubt is a common issue among leaders in today's fast-paced, uncertain world. To help overcome this limiting force of doubt, the article recommends ten actions for leaders, which include: reminding yourself of the dichotomy of control, embracing external challenges as opportunities to grow, stopping the negative stories about your leadership, focusing on helping your team members thrive, embracing the fact that you are not alone in having self-doubts, accepting that you have weaknesses, become aware of your weaknesses through self-reflection and feedback, act upon the feedback, build a "rainy-day gratitude reservoir" of appreciation messages, and create a realistic leadership development plan. I will end with this quote from the article, "Embrace the fact that you are not alone. You are not the only one facing self-doubts. Embrace the fact that you are not alone and that self-doubts are omnipresent in leadership. "By applying these tips, leaders can overcome their self-doubts and continue to grow as leaders as the dynamic future of work continues to unfold. The question is, now that you know, what will you do about it?
