This Week's Top 3 Future of Work Articles Curated for HR Leaders

Happy New Year! These are my top three article picks for the week of January 9th on the future of work, AI, the Metaverse, leadership and employee experience. This week's selection includes insights on how HR will look differently in 2023, how HR can strategically use ChatGPT, and how to strengthen employer-employee relationships in 2023. I hope the articles inspire and ignite your imagination about the future of work and provide insights and strategies you can leverage to help your organization thrive and make work more human.

7 ways HR will look different in 2023

In 2023, HR leaders should prioritize self-development, including learning agility and building a solid network, to navigate the changing world of work. Pay transparency laws are also leading HR to rethink total rewards and provide more context about the range of benefits offered. HR should continue diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEIB) efforts and consider cross-pollination with other industries to drive innovation. Skills-based hiring and development will become more important as roles become more fluid and the job market shifts. HR will need to adapt to remote work and virtual onboarding, while also considering the physical and mental health of employees. The article concluded by emphasizing the critical importance of AI fluency and uncovering use cases for generative artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) to support HR strategies and processes. ?The technology can be used to write job descriptions, create interview questions, summarize documents and more. The bottom line is, usage should be balanced with caution, Generative AI is a game changer for business. I will end with a quote from the article. “Spend 10 minutes with?ChatGPT and you’ll understand the hype.”

Is the metaverse the future of work?

A new report by tech giant Meta suggests that the dominant future of work model is hybrid, combining the benefits of remote and in-person work. However, the report also found that remote work has caused issues with connection and collaboration at work, and that video meetings are not helping to improve these issues. In addition, 69% of respondents said they want more immersive and engaging meetings. The report suggests that the metaverse, or virtual reality technology, could be a solution to these issues by allowing for more immersive and interactive meetings through the use of 3D avatars and spatial audio. The report also found that 65% of workers surveyed said they would be more likely to stay at a job that gives them access to VR tech, and 74% had a dedicated budget to invest in VR last year. The metaverse will play a pivotal role in the unfolding of the future of work. ?Now is the time for HR leaders to explore and evaluate use cases of how organizations are leveraging the metaverse today. Five Ways to Strengthen the Employee-Employer Relationship in 2023

Organizational experts suggest several ways for leadership teams and managers to strengthen the employee-employer relationship in 2023. One suggestion is to make meaningful work design changes, big or small, to allow employees to thrive in their work and personal lives. Another suggestion is to pay attention to emotions and resolve conflicts to build strong relationships based on mutual respect, empathy, and care. Additionally, recognizing and treating employees as whole people, including their personal and professional identities and needs, can help strengthen relationships. Providing employees with the resources and support they need to grow and succeed, as well as creating a culture of trust and respect, are also important factors in strengthening the employee-employer relationship. Prioritize employee experience in 2023 and differentiate your employer brand. It is no longer an option – it is an investment in long-term organizational sustainability. ???
