DAZN Bet will be fully regulated by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) via a licence held by One Click Limited.
DAZN Bet’s new CEO, Mark Kemp, described the soft launch as a “learning phase” for the operator as it seeks to provide a “fantastic recreational sports betting product” aimed at customers within the DAZN “community”.

Lancet publishes study intended to ‘guide future policy’ on UK gambling industry
Lancet has published a study from Delphi – sponsored by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) – aimed at guiding future policy on the British gambling industry.
With some campaigners insisting the DHSC should have responsibility for UK gambling legislation instead of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the DHSC published a dossier of 81 proposals and legislative reforms – many of which would all but rip up the licensed betting industry in the UK.
Dan Waugh, partner at Regulus Partners, described this paper as reading ‘like a prohibitionist charter’.

Germany’s new sports betting market predicted to grow under Fourth Interstate Gambling Treaty
2022 will be a positive year for operators in the German sports betting industry. That’s the view of Dr Matthias Kirschenhofer, executive board member of Sport1 Medien, who believes the Fourth Interstate Gambling Treaty (GlüNeuRStv) regime will make big strides for the German market.
Re-regulation of the German sports betting industry occurred in 2021, with the new Gluecksspiel (GGL) regulatory authority commencing activities this summer.
Although Kirschenhofer acknowledged the recent butting of heads between legislators and the GGL due to licensing, taxation and marketing restrictions, he is looking forward to the “development of a new industry in Germany”.
Sport1 Medien itself is well placed to piggyback off the upward momentum in the German sports betting market. It recently secured broadcast rights to German Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga games and has fostered a vibrant online sports community.
