This week's RFS Report: 4 must-prep-for interview questions, our partnership with Chrysalis, new roles and more

Greetings from Recruiting from Scratch, and welcome to this week’s edition of the RFS Report!

What we’re reading right now ??

Good news for recent college grads? 83% of employers say they plan to either increase or maintain hiring for the class of 2024.

Identity theft x remote work. A woman in Arizona allegedly stole the identities of 60 US citizens to get remote jobs for individuals in North Korea. We may see an additional crackdown on remote work and IT policies, especially at larger companies (some of the companies that had the remote jobs were Fortune 500).

NYC vs. Austin vs. LA. An interesting read on the differences between each of these city’s tech markets, and what each is known for.

RFS and our sponsorship of employment nonprofit, Chrysalis

The other weekend, we sponsored a fundraising event in Santa Monica hosted by the Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) of the nonprofit Chrysalis. Chrysalis helps people who face barriers enter the workforce through services like job-readiness programs and transitional employment. The event raised over $50K (surpassing it’s $40K goal!) and we were proud to support the work Chrysalis does. Read more about the fundraiser and how to get involved here.

4 interview questions to spend extra time on ?

If you’re interviewing, it’s likely that you’re spending time prepping for questions related to your job duties. For example - practicing how you’d share your accomplishments as a data engineer, or how you’d develop a new model as a Machine learning engineer.

But there’s four questions we recommend spending more time on than others, just in case you’re asked one of these. As recruiters, it’s always clear who’s prepared for these - and who hasn’t:

  1. Tell me about a time when you had to challenge a peer or a manager.
  2. Tell me about a time where you had to make a decision about something without all the relevant information.
  3. Why are you interested in this company, specifically? (we can almost guarantee you’ll be asked this one, but a lot of people still don’t prepare enough!)
  4. Why did you leave your last job, or why are you looking for a new job?

Check out our full blog with advice on how to answer these questions here.
