During COP29, the UK government committed $6.5 million in fresh funding to back the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s (CCAC) recently introduced Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme (FFRP). This initiative aims to provide essential regulatory guidance and capacity-building support to as many as 20 nations eligible for development assistance, extending through mid-2027. The question is, how will the programme work in practice?

In this week’s newsletter, we’re excited to share the latest episode of Methane Talks: Policy and Politics: What’s Next on the Methane Regulation Front, in conversation with James Turitto, Director, Global Campaigns, Methane Pollution Prevention at Clean Air Task Force (CATF). Listen as he shares insights into his somewhat humurous journey into methane, the launch of the Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme (FFRP), and the challenges of global standardization - highlighting the shift from prescriptive to performance-based regulations and the need for realistic, enforceable policies.

To learn more about the state of methane regulation in oil and gas, don’t miss our annual infographic: The 2025 State of Methane Emissions Regulations Around the Globe, which highlights the major commitments, actions, and policies that nations are adopting to reduce methane emissions in the energy sector.
