More than 1 in 4 universities operate a food bank, research reveals
New research has found that more than a quarter of universities in the UK are operating a food bank to support students amid the cost-of-living crisis. What’s more the study , carried out by the Higher Education Policy Institute, found that one in 10 universities are distributing food vouchers to students.
UK labelled “toxic poster child of Europe” by pesticide campaigners
According to latest reports, the UK Government has chosen not to prohibit the use 36 pesticides that are currently banned in the European Union (EU). This decision has driven campaigners from Pesticide Action Network UK (PAN) to brand the UK as the “toxic poster child of Europe”, with Nick Mole, Policy Officer at PAN UK expressing his frustrations in a statement.
Aldi launches takeaway pizza delivery service
Discount supermarket Aldi is now launching a takeaway pizza delivery service in popular student cities including Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh. The supermarket says that the idea is inspired by Domino’s pizzas and claims that its pizza offerings are “up to 83 percent cheaper than Domino’s at” ￡3.99 each.
It’s brightening up for Hawaiian papaya growers
This year is shaping up to be a huge boon for Hawaii papaya growers as demand for the only American-grown papaya is increasing among mainland tropical fruit consumers. Growers have seen and will continue to see a plentiful harvest of the superfood through 2023. As the President of the Hawaii Papaya Industry Association, the growers we represent are producing over one million pounds per month spurred on by a growing demand from mainland United States shoppers interested in buying unique and fully nutritious tropical fruits.
